Week 7 12/5 - 19/5/2018

Week 7 saw 4 workmates come for an Angling Lines exclusive long weekend of Saturday to Tuesday. They fished from swims 2, 3, 5 and 7 during the days only, except for Chris who did stay out all night on Sunday. There were 3 new personal bests for Chris, Frank and Steve - Chris with a 34lb common, Steve with a 33lb8oz common and Frank had a 14lb common. They mostly used the venue bait and caught 8 carp. They were unfortunate with the weather as there were thunderstorms Saturday and Monday nights and it rained during most of their stay.

As there were no other clients for the rest of the week, our friends Daz and Julie popped over for a few days with a grocery delivery for us. We offer a food package and need regular supplies of English bacon, sausages and baked beans for the cooked breakfasts. It was lovely to see them and they looked after the lake for us also while we had a couple of days away. Julie doesn't fish but Daz caught a few fish too. He stalked in swim 3 on Thursday and within an hour he caught a 40lb12oz mirror and a 30lb12oz common. In total Daz had 8 carp.

Week 6 5/5 - 12/5/2018

Week 6 was a mixed week of 3 Dutch Superweekenders and 3 English brothers.

Max, Rene and Boy chose to fish from swims 4, 5 and 6 and landed 10 carp to 36lb11oz (16.7kg). Boy moved to swim 3 for his final night and had 2 mirrors of 36lb4oz and 27lb14oz.

Gary, John and Mick fished from swims 1 and 7 and then John moved to swim 2 after a couple of days. When the Dutch went home on Wednesday morning Gary moved to swim 3 and managed 2 new Personal Bests - a 35lb common and then a 38lb mirror.

Everbody had at least 1 30lb carp during the week. 26 carp landed, 3 x 20's and 13 x 30's.

The weather was warm and pleasant and we all ate outside most evenings.

Week 4 - 21st April to 28th April 2018

Week 4 saw a family group from The Netherlands come to stay in the chalet and do a bit of fishing. Jan and Willem fished from swim 7 and the Jetty during the day and slept in the chalet with their friend Ewald, who was only doing the cooking and taking long walks in the surrounding countryside. The younger members of the group, Jeroen and Dennis, fished swim 2 and reeled in to come and eat with the others. Jeroen had a birthday on Sunday and celebrated with a 34lb1oz common carp and then had to wait until Friday when he landed another 2. Jan had 14 carp to 30lb12oz, Willem had 3 carp to 35lb3oz and Dennis had 8 to 34lb3oz.

On Sunday, our old Dutch friend Edwin arrived for a few days with his acquaintance Robbie. Edwin moved into swim 5 and did really well with 17 carp to 37lb12oz. 10 of them were thirties and the others were twenties. Robbie started in swim 4 but couldn't fish it properly so moved to swim 6 where he was able to use his bait boat. He landed 10 carp to 36lb7oz and they went home early Friday morning.

Summary - 6 anglers - 55 carp

15 x 20's to 29lb12oz

27 x 30'2 to 37lb12oz

Total weight 1,456lb7oz.

Week 5 28/4 - 5/5/2018

This week we were visited by our friend John who recently sold his own French lake. We used to keep an eye on it for him. We had plans to be out and about, visiting our webmaster who was fishing a canal further down France and making up bait for orders and John was going to look after our lake with 5 of his fishing buddies.

Our plans went wrong when we found an SOS on Facebook from Pascale of the Goncourt complex. We had strong winds on Sunday but Pascale had a hurricane hit some of her lakes. Barry and John went with a chainsaw and waders to help with the clear up on Monday, along with the anglers and some other local lake owners.

John and Dave J did really well in swims 5 & 6 but Damian and Tony didn't do so well in swim 2. Maybe the bait boat was a problem? Fred and Dave A had several carp in swim 7. The weather became warmer as the week went on.

Altogether there were 62 carp landed including 3 x 40's.

Week 3 - 14th April to 21st April 2018

Week 3 and it's hotting up here at Barrington's Lake. We had a mix of groups this week. We had Lee and his wife Judith from England, Luke also English, our Dutch friend Sander brought his friend Made' and there were two Belgian anglers for a long weekend, Nathan and Istvan. The catch report ran to 3 pages and there were 81 carp weighing 1,891lb2oz in total. 25 x 20's, 22 x 30's and 3 40's.

Lee fished swim 7 and had 26 carp during the week including a few stockies and a beautiful 41lb12oz mirror and Judith had a new PB of a 10lb2oz common.

Luke fished swim 2 and landed 21 carp also including a few stockies and a mirror of 37lb. We would watch him going through the reeds and into the water to land some of his fish.

Made' fished swim 4 and as suggested by us he kept his bivvy back on the path and his rod tips off the water. He used boilies made by our friend Sander and landed 18 carp including two forties - a 40lb11oz mirror known as Ribby and another mirror of 40lb3oz.

Sander wasn't fishing as he was helping us with the construction of the new dining room and also being cameraman to Luke and Made'. Top bloke!

Nathan and Istvan fished together in swim 6 with their little Jack Russell, Duc. They used a bait boat to place their lines along the dam wall area and in front of them. Sadly, they only landed stockies but some of them weighed over 14lb. They did lose a couple of fish that they said had felt bigger but said that they had enjoyed their visit and would like to return.

It was a lovely week and we ate outside most days and had a BBQ on Wednesday evening.

Week 2

Peter, his son Rob and their friends Dan & Steve fished at Barrington's for week 2 as an exclusive. They fished from swims 2, 3, 5 & 6 and kept the fish moving around the lake.

During the week they landed 45 carp to 36lb4oz including seventeen 30's and thirteen 20's.

Steve had a new personal best common of 30lb12oz.

Dan was 'Top Rod' with 16 carp and the 36lb4oz mirror. He was also delighted to land one of the grass carp weighing 27lb.

A very good week and they were great company. We were all able to eat outside on a couple of evenings as the weather was quite nice. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year!

Week 1 - 31st March to 7th April 2018

John and his young son, Finlay, stayed in the chalet for a half term holiday with some fishing. They had days out to Troyes and Dijon. They only fished 2 nights during their week and Finlay had fun catching tench, roach and pike with lures, maggots and worms whilst waiting for a carp.

Martin, Peter, Glenn and their camera man Steven, came for a Superweekend (Saturday to Wednesday) from The Netherlands. They set up in swims 6 and 4 and had 7 carp to 32lb. They used the venues own boilies and took the owners advice on various fishing tactics. The weather was challenging during their stay and it was cold with winds and torrential rain on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Work Party March 2018

Our friends Daz, Byron and Sander came to help out as a work party in March. Despite the days of heavy rain and then the snow, lots of work was completed. The undergrowth was trimmed between the Jetty and swim 7 before several dumper loads of earth were added to the area to smooth it out. Terram was laid and covered by gravel. Wooden boards were used to edge the path and to give it strength. Now, it is a convenient route to the island and to swim 7.

The boards on swims 2, 3, 4 & 5 were reinforced with oak planks and then the swims were topped up with gravel. The gravel was taken over in dustbins in the boat to swims 4 & 5, as it was too wet to take the dumper around the lake past swim 3.

The path around the chalet area was refreshed with some of the gravel.

Daz and Byron fished during the nights and were rewarded with three carp each up to 36lb which was a ‘snow carp’ for Byron on his final morning. Sander fished for pike, perch and roach.
