Overview

French carp at Boomerang

Boomerang is the perfect French carp venue. A mobile home is perched beside the lake and its decked terrace provides shade and stunning views of the water and the surrounding countryside. A chilled glass of the local Anjou wine as you sit on the covered terrace high above the lake and only feet away are your rods as you relax, anticipating your next run from one of its powerful residents.

Jean Francois the easy going owner of the lake is a keen fisherman and has a wealth of knowledge of all things piscatorial. This of course includes the lakes residents and where to find them, information he is happy to share.

Named after its unusual boomerang shape, the 6 acre lake is located in the Poitou Charantes region. The lake is just far enough South to enjoy the long hot summers of one of France’s famous wine growing regions, but still only 3 hours and 45 minutes from the ferry port at Caen. The local town with shops and restaurants is less than 2 miles away.

All of this is available on an exclusive basis for up to 4 anglers.

Caravan nice, everything we needed.  Lovely villages nearby.  Owner even had a volleyball court set up!  He is a really lovely bloke.   We were 2 experienced anglers and 2 real novice anglers.  Caught around 18 carp between 17 and 38lb, including a lovely 36lb and a 38lb.  Lovely hard fighting carp.

The Carp Lake

Surrounded by shade giving trees the 5 swims are all on one side of the lake. This gives every angler access to the far bank, which is only a moderate cast away, and its very carpy overhanging tree and bushes.

There are sand, gravel and rocky features to explore throughout the lake as well as a shallower plateau in the corner of the boomerang. The deeper water is situated against the dam wall and the lakes depths vary from a couple of feet to ten feet.

Baiting the far margins by hand is an easy task with only a short walk to the far bank. Once there you can spot the features and the carp in the crystal clear water and keep an eye on how effective your baiting strategy has been.

The four main swims have mains power, night lights and barbeques. If you do fancy a sociable lunch to discuss tactics, the covered terrace of the lakeside accommodation is never far away.

The Carp

Boomerang contains at least 140 French carp from mid doubles to mid 40's with a few beautiful koi and grass carp for added interest. The lake also has tench, roach, zander, and it’s worth packing a light spinning combo or a fly rod to tempt the black bass.

A netting in January 2010 revealed 130 carp (85 mirrors and 32 commons);

The Facilities

A well appointed 2 bedroom mobile home sits close to one of the swims which means that you could relax under its covered terrace and still have your rods out.

There's also a separate toilet & shower block for bivvy anglers who don't hire the accommodation. This also contains a bait freezer for your use.

A great deal of thought has gone into the development of this lake to provide an element of luxury to your carping. In addition to the excellent lakeside accommodation each of the 4 main swims has a BBQ, mains electricity supply and night lights with motion sensors to illuminate your swim when you get a run at night. You can keep your bait boat, mobile phone and other equipment fully charged and ready, cook a tasty barbeque... and all without leaving your swim. It’s all designed to maximise your fishing pleasure.

For those wishing to cram even more into their week Futurescope with its thrilling rides and massive IMAX screens is just over an hour away. While those of a more chilled out disposition might enjoy the marshes of Marais Poitevin, known as the Green Venice. Lying only 50 miles to the south it can be explored by boat starting from one of the regions most beautiful villages at Coulon.
