Angling holidays at Hideaway

As the name suggests Hideaway is a secluded lake in the Normandy countryside, just 1½ hours from the ferry port of Caen, and is available for exclusive bookings for groups of 3 or 4 anglers. Hideaway has been established since 1947 and contains carp and catfish to over 40lb.

Its name says it all really, Hideaway is a place where you can escape the pressures of modern life and enjoy superb carp fishing with your friends in idyllic surroundings - a real gem!

The Carp Lake

The 2 acre lake is fairly narrow and oblong in shape - fishing is from one bank only.

Depths vary from less than a metre near the feeder stream, averaging 1m in the centre and down to 2½m at the dam wall end.

The lake bed is largely firm with pockets of patchy silt, notably at the dam.

The banks are flat and grassy, ideal for setting up a bivvy and a pod. There are no specific pegs, but the bank is fishable along its entire length. Angling holidays in beautiful unspoilt surroundings.

Access is by foot, with parking at the entrance to the lake. The whole site is secure and fenced in.

The Carp

The lake dates back to 1947 and consequently has a good head of original carp. To supplement these fish the owner stocked additional carp in 2002 to a fraction under 40lb, while several of the seven catfish stocked went over the 40lb mark.  Further stock was then added in November 2005.

So far the lake record stands at 39lb 6oz for a mirror and whilst the average common would be a double, they do run to over 30lb.

The Facilities

Included in the Hideaway price you get full use of the traditional French hunting lodge which sits right at the side of the lake and can sleep up to 6 people.

It comprises; lounge/diner (with TV which receives some UK channels), bathroom with bath, shower & toilet, kitchen equipped with modern facilities including fridge/freezer and a separate large bait freezer.

Upstairs there is one twin bedroom and one double bedroom and a toilet.

Guests are asked to bring their own linen but it can be made available on request.

Please note - the lodge is a non-smoking home and the stairs to the upstairs accommodation are quite steep and wouldn’t be suitable for disabled anglers.

• Applies to fishing & accommodation
• Applies to a Dover - Calais ferry crossing.  Other crossings will be discounted but it may not be possible to offer a 40% discount on the ferry crossing
• Heating supplement may apply
