Overview
Carp fishing France at Lac du Val
Lac du Val is beautiful lake of around 4½ acres located in northern Normandy, less than an hour's drive from the ferry port of Caen. The privacy of the site allows peaceful and tranquil carp fishing France in lush rural surroundings for a maximum of five anglers.
This venue continues to go from strength to strength, the magnificent fish sizes (the lake record common currently stands at over 62lb) together with the numbers of carp caught lead to many repeat bookings each year.
The venue is owned by an English couple, David and Sammy Harding. They live on-site in their converted farm house and they have taken great care in landscaping and stocking the water with a superb stock of magnificent looking carp. David has been involved in carp fishing both in the UK and on the continent since the 1960’s so his understanding of what you are looking for from a carp fishing session is second to none. However, the rules are strict on this venue as the owner is fastidious regarding carp health and care, so anglers should check out the bait restrictions & rules etc before booking.
The Wilson party fished here in May 2011, taking 31 carp which included a 53lb’er... 5 x 40’s (including a 48lb common)... and 13 x 30’s (biggest 39lb 8oz mirror). Here’s what they had to say;
“We listened to Dave and all 3 of us smashed our Pb twice over with his help. This is our 7th visit to Lac du Val and we learn something new every time we come. What a fantastic weeks fishing and we have already booked for next year and cannot wait! Sammy's food is fantastic. Thanks from Gary, Darrel & Leanne.”
The Carp Lake
The 4½ acre carp lake first opened as a commercial fishery in 2004.
It is of the small estate lake type surrounded by grassy banks, dammed at one end and with two islands providing a natural haven for the carp at the top end.
It's fed by a trout stream so the water quality is excellent.
The depth varies from 3m at the right hand end of the damn wall, averaging 1½m in the centre, down to as little as ½m in the shallows by the islands at the top end.
Important note; There is a section of the lake to the rear of the islands (see lake map - last photo on this page) which is a reserve area that the owner reserves the right to occasionally fish, but apart from this anomaly it is possible to book the rest of the lake exclusively to one group.

Lac du Val currently holds at least 30+ thirties, 15+ forties and 4 known 50+’s... and this number is increasing all the time.
David has stocked the lake himself and has followed a policy of introducing good quality fish in small batches and these have now grown to a very good size.
The first batch of carp were stocked in 2000 and fish have been added on a regular basis ever since. The most recent stocking took place in February 2011 when another 30 carp to 30lb+ were stocked.

The facilities on this venue are excellent - there are 2 Norwegian style wooden chalets which will sleep two people and are fully equipped for self catering… with the added bonus of video & Sky TV!
The Farmhouse chalet lies about 50 metres from the lake and has ensuite shower and toilet facilities.
The Lakeside chalet is situated right on the waters edge and like the Farmhouse chalet has full facilities with the exception of toilet and shower. For these you walk to the Farmhouse (about 60 metres) where there is a separate toilet and shower.
Adjacent to the Farmhouse there is an anglers room which has a toilet and shower as well as a bait freezer and also a large fridge for the anglers use.
The local village is close by and has a several shops for essential items, including bakers and very reasonably priced restaurants.
