I see that your rules state no arrivals before 4pm, however, my boat arrives really early on the Saturday morning – can I get to you early to drop off some gear?
We have no objection to guests arriving before 4pm if you let us know this in advance. However, please be aware that we must finish cleaning the lodge and getting the mowing done, and we may not be ready for you.
How far are the nearest supermarket / petrol / tabac?
The nearest town with all of these facilities is 7km from Oakview and we give detailed instructions of how to get there to each new party on arrival. We are also lucky in that the local supermarket is open from 9am to 12noon on Sundays. There is also a tabac in the local village just down the road.
Can we leave our gear bank side if we go out for the day?
Oakview is very secure and we have never had a problem with any group leaving their personal effects and going out for the day. Having said that, you can never be too careful nowadays and we give you a key to a large, lockable bait shed.
Can I drink the tap water?
All the tap water is mains-fed and perfectly safe to drink.
Are you open all year round?
Yes
Can I book the lake direct with you?
Oakview has an exclusive agreement with Angling Lines as the sole booking agent and we don’t take direct bookings. This agreement not only protects you as the client but also ensures that the interests of all Angling Lines venues are protected as well.
Can I buy bait from you?
Yes, we stock both Quest Baits and Mainline Cell & New Grange (please take a look at the main webpage for details). We also offer various particles, plus pellet and have a Bait Package available. We normally like to know in advance if you want to order bait and in particular if you need particles which can then be defrosted for you in readiness for your arrival.
Will I be able to get more bait during my stay if I need it?
Yes, we keep ample supplies of particle and pellet, plus additional supplies of boilies etc.
Can I bring my own particles?
Yes you can, but we do not allow unprepared particles, only the branded and ready-made types.
We see that you stock Quest and Mainline boilies. Which work best?
We have no hard evidence that one is better then the other. Both types have had lots of success and we stock these by popular demand. If another bait started to catch well and anglers started requesting it, we would consider supplying it.
Can I bring my dog (or dogs) to Oakview?
We welcome well behaved dogs at Oakview – just let us know in advance that you are bringing them – we can also arrange for the necessary vet appointment the day before you depart as required by the UK Border Regulations. Please bear in mind, however, that the lake and accommodation do border with neighbours and there are no fences between us and the country lanes.
Do you have UK plug points?
The plug points inside the lodge are French, but there are two English plug points outside the lodge under the terrace for mobile phone / bait boat charging etc. UK adaptors are also available on request.
It seems that the lodge does have everything I need but do I need to bring my own towels, tea towels or bed linen?
No, all of this is provided for you.
Do you have a hairdryer in the lodge?
Yes, there is a hair dryer. You will also find an iron and iron board if you should feel the urge!
What’s the lake fishing like at the moment?
We put client’s feedback onto our web page every week, so that’s the best place to look to find out the answer to this question. However, feel free to call us for up to the minute information.
Do you have any catfish or sturgeon?
No, the only species other than carp in the main lake is pike. We have the lake netted each winter to remove fry.
Has anyone tried to take a fish off the top?
Yes, this has been tried here at Oakview several times. To our knowledge this method has only been successful once.
Do more fish come out at night?
No, we’ve analysed our catch reports over 3 years and there is no overall pattern.
Are any special tactics required?
No. Basic bottom baits are the norm at Oakview.
