Week commencing 21st April
This week was our second All Inclusive trip of the year and would see some new and old faces to Roseau. The minibus arrived early which wasn’t a problem as the previous weeks anglers departed early due to the driving time once off the boat at Dover so we soon sat down with our new guests with tea in hand to chat over the previous week catches. Once again the weather was still being unkind so the tea drinking went on until a break in the rain helped the anglers get their houses up for the weeks angling ahead. It was around 1pm by the time the anglers were ready to fish for what have been very obliging fish of late, all were very excited as were myself and Dave.
On this particular trip was old friends of Roseau, Darren and Steve aka (Shirley) plus new faces of Ashley, Nico, Albie, Darren and his partner Michelle who was an non angling guests who I believe was hoping for warmer weather but unfortunately it wasn’t to be, never mind Michelle, always next June on the Small Lake!! Albie and his son Nico had booked the Small lake and if honest, were struggling at first which, looking back was most probably down to rigs, it didn’t take long for our Nico to start firing questions at us, we spent alot of time with Nico teaching him new rigs, when to use them and what benefits they have, he listened to everything we said, took it on board and applied it to his fishing with great success and went on to catch 3 thirty’s with each being a PB plus a PB Common of 30lb, both myself and Dave believe he will become a very good angler and most certainly one to watch out for in the future, good luck mate!! Not to be outdone, his Dad Albie went on to catch 2 fish at once, the first fish was netted whilst Darren helped out with his second rod, he netted the fish and retained her in the edge whilst the first was weighed at 35lb and slipped back, it was when I turned up in the swim and glazed through the sling to see a familiar fish known as big tail, she looked bigger than the previous capture of 43lb, I decided to give Albie the chance to settle down before we hoisted her up and on the mat, at times us anglers can rush this part and cause damage to the fish so leaving them in the edge to recover, but just as important, give ourselves the chance to regain our composure, anyway, together we lifted her up on the scales to record a new seasons best for Big Tail and most certainly a PB for Albie at 45lb 03oz, well done mate, a top fish to a top boy!
Darren and Shirley decided to fish the far bank after taking into consideration the previous weeks catches, they would have to put up with the strong winds and heavy rain though which almost feels multiplied at times but that didn’t stop them catching, they caught fish from the word go with a very good average weight too, the best part being Shirley taking a PB Common of 40lb in the early hours of Tuesday morning whilst Darren was nursing a Kronenburg hangover! A great catch mate and well deserved, see ya on the Small Lake next year! Further along from these boys was Ashely who was on his first ever trip to France and for some reason did struggle, I can only presume it was down to the fish avoiding the area due to the 50+ fish that had been taken the previous week, he did manage a few to 20lb+ but hoped for more, sorry Ash but we hope you enjoyed your time with us at Roseau and hopefully you’ll come back next year for another bash…
Darren and Michelle bivvied up in peg 9, Darren’s choice of swim on the tour of the lake, he soon settled in and caught from the word go, he continued in this fashion for the remainder of the week taking many PB’s along the way including 4 PB 30’s on the bounce with the largest going 37lb+, again a big well done mate, you fished in some horrible conditions but it didn’t deter you, we look forward to having you back on the Small Lake next year!!
This week flew by and it was soon time to wave goodbye to new friends made, all of which was an absolute pleasure, thanks to everyone for another enjoyable week.

Large Lake
Due to the constant heavy rainfull here at Roseau in the last 10 days the banks in some areas around the large lake have become quite boggy so please bring your boots!
We're forecast some sunny days with high temperatures in the next week so hopefully this will dry it out a little.

Week commencing 14th April
Our 3rd week saw the arrival of a party of 9 anglers who had booked the large lake on an exclusive basis. Saturday morning arrived and as expected the cars were blocking up the road outside the gate, a little jog up the path to open the doors to a new party and a whole new week… We greeted Tony, Graham, Lee, Scott, Lewis, Geoff & Scott Gilder, Graham aka (Bomber) & Tony P, as usual we got the tea drinking exercise out the way before myself and Dave walked them around the lake giving pointers on the previous weeks areas to fish, once back at the lodge it was time to draw for swims, the guys had done this prior to coming so it was all settled.
The weather was bright and sunny but the forecast was for more of the same, rain, rain and more rain, it was horrible conditions to fish in but the fish liked it as the catch report proved come end of the week, with the little gap in between showers it allowed the anglers to set up in the dry.
That first evening with the lads, instantly myself and Dave knew it was going to be a week where lots of laughs were on the cards and wrong we wasn’t, the banter we had with all the lads was great, I think we were all were excited to see how the week would go.
It didn’t take long for the fish to start feeding and before dinner Sunday evening there was over 10 fish banked, mainly 20lb’ers. This pattern continued throughout the week with breakfast and dinner times proving good bite times with a lot of the banked fish coming out to the anglers on the far bank due to the big Northerly winds we had, this would change from the early hours of Monday morning and knowing Bomber was in peg 1 I informed him of the change and told him he would receive action because of this, I wasn’t wrong, on my walk around the lake on bin duties I walked into Bomber’s swim to see a lovely mirror on his mat, “kipper that is mate”, he looked and said “you told me so”, up on the scales she went 38lb 14oz, he was pleased as punch and shortly after followed it up with a 31lb Common.
The party had previously been to Roseau whilst it was under other management, all the comments we had from the group was that the food was first class, the facilities were excellent and myself and Dave were nice chaps who get on really well, the fundamentals in running a good fishery and on the strength of that the lads have rebooked for 2013!
The chaps continued to haul all week with loads of 30lb+ fish being banked and finished the week with over 200 fish between the group, the highlight of the week was Tony finishing off in style as promised with a 40+ Common.
It was an absolute pleasure having the boys over and we can’t wait for their return trip.
Cheers Chaps

Our second week saw the arrival of 2 anglers from Wakefield by the names of Carl & Neil who had booked the small lake on an exclusive basis. They arrived early and the usual tea drinking began, it was very clear the guys were eager to get fishing so we walked around the lake and informed them of the “hot spots” and the previous weeks captures, we returned to the lodge and went over the lake rules after which the guys were off like greyhounds out of the trap! It didn’t take long for the fish to start feeding with Carl taking the first 5 fish all over the 20lb mark, Neil, still to catch asked to swap swims with Carl and as you would guess, the answer was NO, little did Carl know at the time, but if he did I’m sure he would have said yes straight away as Neil then went on to catch 4 fish on the bounce all over 30lb!!
The guys had booked the Breakfast package and on arrival to the lodge the next morning their smiles said it all, approximately 10 fish caught in 24 hours and new PB’s achieved, what more could they have wanted?!
Another angler booked on that week was Kevin Coventry who was booked on the large lake, Kevin arrived and after a walk around decided on peg 9, this can be a very good peg if you watch the water, get it right and you can have big hits as Kevin went on to do taking 48 fish, 22 over 20lb and four 30’s, and he didn’t fish a single night! Sadly Kevin had to leave us on the Thursday due to work commitments but a good time had by all and hopefully new friendships made.
Carl and Neil were still hauling taking many more fish to 30lb+, it would slow down a little as they both kindly offered to help relocate our sky dish which we are most thankful for. During this relocation it came to light that Carl was celebrating his birthday on the “quiet”, me and Dave thought it would be nice to offer the guys up for an evening meal which they excepted so we popped out to the shops picking up the standard shopping essential, Kronenburg, plus a lovely cake for Carl, we sat down later that evening and enjoyed a nice meal and a few beers and the cake, a great couple of hours but the fishing was what the guys had come for so they departed for the Nash comforts.
The next morning saw Carl bouncing up the path with “that” look on his face, he had landed a new PB in the shape of Big Tail at 43lb, both myself and Dave were really chuffed for him as they had worked hard throughout their trip even in the harshest condition, well done mate!
The week soon drew to a close and once again we said our goodbyes waving as they drove through the gate on that dreaded journey. We hope we have made some new friends and look forward to seeing the guys next year when they return to smash the big lake!
