Lake Rules at Vaux

Security Deposit; a 200€ security deposit will be asked for at the start of your holiday. The equivalent in sterling will be accepted.  This will be refunded in full at the end of the holiday provided everything in the house and lakeside is left in order and there are no breakages or damage.  Please try to leave the house as clean and tidy as when you arrived.  If extra cleaning hours are required they will be charged and taken from the deposit.

Lake Rules;

The following rules are intended for the welfare of the fish, the venue and fellow anglers.  Vaux is operated as a friendly environment, not as a regime, but we do expect anglers to co-operate in following these rules;

  • 4 anglers are allowed a maximum of 4 rods each

  • 5 anglers are allowed a maximum of 3 rods each

  •  Rods must not be left unattended at any time

  • No fixed lead, death rigs, tether or bent hook rigs are allowed - lines will be checked!   Rigs must allow fish to free themselves from the lead in the event of breakage.  Please use safe rigs making sure that the lead set-up can slide over any shock leader knot

  • Hooks are the angler’s choice, although the lake preference is for barbed or micro barbed hooks.  A single hook only is to be used, no multiple hooks and no bent hooks

  • No unhooking mats are permitted.  Only large continental type cradles are allowed so that the carp can be partially submerged in water before being lifted to be weighed.  If you don’t have one, then a large continental carp cradle with a weigh/recovery sling must be hired at 20€ per week.  Please do not stand up whilst holding fish for photos!

  •  Landing nets must be 42inch minimum.  If you do not have a large landing net, then one can be hired for 15€ per week.  If it is broken or damaged during your hire, the cost of replacement will be deducted from the security deposit

  • 'Sacking' of any fish prior to weighing will only be permitted in a recovery sling.  Because our carp are reaching weights of 50lb+, they are difficult to handle when being weighed bankside, especially when they are spawned up.  They MUST be kept in a recovery sling to be weighed in the lake as soon as Chas can arrive to assist, in order to avoid any damage to the carp which can lead to its death.  Waders will be provided to enable anglers to go into the lake to weigh the carp and to take trophy shots

  • Unfortunately due to bad preparation of particles and home-made baits by some anglers, only professionally prepared particle baits and nuts (ie by DNA Baits, Innovate Baits, Hinders, etc) are allowed.  No other particle baits will be allowed, except for tinned sweetcorn

  • Boats and swimming are strictly forbidden

  • Baitboats are allowed

  • Please leave no litter, cigarette ends or line; bins will be provided for all your litter.  The cutting of trees or degradation of the natural vegetation is strictly forbidden

General Rules;

  • The gîte will be available from 2pm on the day of arrival and must be vacated no later than 10am on the day of departure

  • Infants under the age of four are free of charge, but must be included on the booking

  • Vehicles must be parked in the car parking area except for unloading / loading and must not be allowed to block the access road at any time as it is a right of way for use by farmers and the local community

  • The angler is responsible for his family and his guests and for any damage they may cause.  The gîte is no more than 2m from the lake so children must be accompanied by an adult at all times

  • No refund will be given for an early departure

  • The owners cannot be held responsible for any theft or damage to personal property anywhere on the premises or for any accident or loss

  • A lock-up is provided in the Mill where all fishing gear, including wet clothing and made-up rods may be stored if required, but all items will be left at the angler’s own risk.  The owners will not be responsible for any items left in the lock-up.  No fishing gear is to be taken into or stored in the gite

  • A freezer is available in the Mill specifically for anglers’ bait.  No cooking of bait is permitted in the gite

  • An area at the top of the lake is reserved for fish and wild-life.  This area, together with certain other areas, will be pointed out on your arrival as strictly out of bounds to everyone at all times

  • No dogs are allowed except by prior arrangement with the owners

  • Necessary maintenance and grass-cutting will have to be carried out by the owners periodically; anglers and their families are requested to be as tolerant of this as the fish now are!!!

  • Smoking in the gîte is not allowed and we would ask that when smoking outside all cigarette ends are placed in the tubs provided

  • All bed linen and tea towels are provided FOC, with beds already made up on arrival, but please bring your own towels

  • Under no circumstances are duvets and pillows to be removed from the gîte and must not be used either lakeside or in bivvies
