Roseau carp lake in France

We’ve had another week of high temperatures for the time of year here at Roseau, however the ever consistent Small Lake has set a bench mark for the season with an incredible weeks angling by Dave and Stuart. After explaining how active the fish had been, Bas and myself had a stroll around the lake to point out a few of the hot spots and areas where the fish had been coming out from. Dave and Stu were in a lucky situation to have the whole lake to move around and cover a lot of water, this is exactly what they did and too great effect.

The lads set up camp on the bank fast becoming known as the ‘Social’, pegs 2 and 3. Two pegs that command a large area of water with the overhanging trees on the far margin along with open water and carpy looking margins to present baits. The trip couldn’t of started much better for Stu when he slipped the net under the lakes largest known resident ‘Big Tail’ at 44lb, Result!

The first couple of days carried on much the same for Stu from peg 2, he caught consistently from a couple of different spots on the far margin. Dave had managed a couple of fish to low 30’s but was struggling in comparison to Stu. We went down to have a beer and a chat with them and recommended they take advantage of the water they had to fish, we suggested they bait some other spots and rest swims 2 and 3 in the days then fish them at night. Using swims 1 and 4 as day time swims, baiting them regularly increased there catch rates incredibly. One morning Dave came up at 9am and had managed 6 carp from swim 1 since first light, very impressive angling!

The week ended with both lads very tired and probably needing another holiday to recover from lack of sleep and arm ache!! They banked a massive total of 73 carp between them, 2 x 40’s ( Big Tail came out twice to Stu at 44lb), 15 x 30’s and countless 20’s! The winning tactics were simple but very effective, a light scattering of boilies over each rod in pegs 2 and 3 then baiting several spots around the lake for the day time hours. Very impressive weeks angling by both lads, very well done! (Pictures to follow)
