A summary in photos of Bill Holcombe’s week at Margot

My week at Margot was full of ‘firsts’!

  1. I have never caught a carp so small on a bolt rig!  It must have weighed all of 2oz, foul hooked in the nose of course!
  2. My first ever Grass Carp… more and bigger were to follow in the week.
  3. My first ever catfish @ 56lb!  It was not what I was expecting when I got a take on Sunday morning & I was even more surprised to land it on a 12lb b/s hooklink since I got bitten off a  further twice during the week.
  4. The first time I have caught a Koi (managed 2 in the week).

The highlight of the week came right at the end.  Half way through packing up on the Saturday morning I got a take which resulted in a 46lb’er… my new PB!  Talk about leaving it late.

In total I caught 24 carp (not including the 4 mini-carp) and 1 x catfish.

It was the first time I had used mesh on my baits. The shelf life boilies I got from the lake (Quest Baits Rahja Spice) were too big and hard for the small fish, but the Premier Baits Matrix (freezer bait) I took with me were softer and got mullered by the small fish.  The mesh worked a treat.
