Hi, I’m just after some info on Morganes as me and a friend are booked up for a week from 19th April. How’s it been fishing lately? Any tips for the carp at this time of year and will the cats be likely to feed?
thanks for any help

Hi Wayne,
Well it’s early days yet to to say how the lake has been fihsing is a bit premature. It has not been fished since last year and the first groups are only now this week booked on. We will of course, in due course post the catch reports we are sent.
As to tactics for the venue, I’d say don’t go in over complicating things, get the basics right first. Decent rig, decent bait…..KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) I’d choose one or two good boilies as the basis of your attack on the lake. My choice at present would be Quest baits Rahja Spice and second Special Crab.
If want a bright bait, and these have proved useful on the venue, then Pineapple Crush would be my choice….it is always wise to has these in your tackle bag.. Perhaps also try the plastic baits by Enterprise, I find yellow in these very good fished snowman with a regular boilie. I’ve found the small particle baits like partiblend or the Quest Garlic Feast devastating on waters I’ve fished. Get a bed of that down and fish a good food bait over the top. Certainly don’t overlook the margins, the biggest and most productive feature in any lake.

I would start off by baiting an area on the lake with a particle and a boilie on the hook, and probably putting two rods on this one spot. I would fish one bottom bait and one of the plastic baits a snowman with this on the second rod. The third rod can be used to experiment both baits and areas.Don’t forget the most important thing is to present a bait to the fish where they feed… Don’t get too caught up in the hype of this rig or this bait.. A good bait in the right spot will catch you fish….Get the watercraft right and as I’ve said above, you don’t need over-complicated baits, tactics or rigs…Check out this article on Watercraft: Seven Secrets to Catching Carp. Finally, yes indeed the cats will be active at this time of the year. My tactic here would be to fish Halibut Pellets under the far margin trees to the left as you look at the lake from the pontoon. There is a boat so I’d get out and bait an area heavily with pellets and fish two or three baits on a hair. Check this video on Catfish techniques: Catfish Techniques in France
Hope this helps
Gareth
