We decided it was time to give the Lodge, Toilets & Showers a much needed make-over prior to the 2012 season, during the 8 years since we opened in 2004 they have had a lot of use & served us well.

The first job was to tile all the floors right though which is now completed & looks so much better.

Next was the job of removing all the old tiles in the shower cubicles (& what a seemingly endless job that was, me & my big mouth again!!) new ones are being put up followed by all interior walls & ceilings to be painted.  Me insisting that I would be best suited to being Head Supervisor to this work fell on deaf ears & I just could not manage to get out of being general labourer & gofer…..not a problem as long as we took plenty of coffee breaks!!

I am entrusted with a paint brush & paint & when I’m in paint mode anything & everything gets a coat of paint..the dogs stayed well clear of me!

We also took advantage of the good dry weather in November to get a couple of coats of paint on the outside Lodge walls.

So by the end of January the Lodge & Showers will look all refreshed & ready to move things back in readiness for the new season.

The weather being kind to us in November was also a good opportunity to get cracking with the annual chop down & clearing work in & around the lake.

We have enjoyed the company of many Anglers during the 2011 season some new to Les Genets & others returning customers & we would like to wish all Anglers & the team at Angling Lines all our very best wishes for Xmas & the New Year & look forward to seeing many of you again in 2012.

On a recent week (w/c 6th August) at Genets Alan Bond achieved a personal best catfish & carp (51lb).

Here’s what he had to say;

“All fish were in superb condition & a credit to Larry & Heather’s hard work & efficient management. I caught using bottom baits tight to margin areas under bushes/trees. CC Moore’s Live produced more fish followed by Odyssey XXX.

Heather’s food was superb as usual & Larry’s company on the bank was a privilege. It was ironic that Larry caught his first 40 & I my first 50 whilst sharing each others company on the bank. Les Genets is the place for good food, good company, peace & tranquillity, combining to make the perfect fishing holiday. Will be booking again as soon as we get home. Thank-you for making our time at Les Genets so special.

As there were only 2 people (Alan & Ange Bond) on Genets w/c 6th August, Larry took the rare opportunity to get in a bit of fishing doing a few nights from around 9pm to 7am.

After many years of trying to beat his PB of 39lb, but never having quite managed to make it to a 40lb’er, this all changed on Monday night 8th August when he finally hooked into & landed a cracking 44lb 8oz Mirror… his new PB!

He called Alan on the radio who obliged with the photo & also witnessed the weighing of it. This was followed at 5am on Thursday by a 43lb 14oz. Both fish were caught on Odyssey XXX. During these short sessions he has also had a few high 20’s.

Well done Larry!

I’m not one for getting stressed, I’ve always been a fairly stress free person happy to take life and people as they come. I’m not highly strung or demanding (though my wife may disagree!) I like things done right and I’m a stickler for planning.

Therefore it came as some surprise that I found myself getting annoyed with the children and short with my wife. Given the fact that I have a target driven job, as I have done for the last 12 years of my working life I could only put my recent angst down to the fact that the 16 hour working days and the constant travel, meetings and presentations were having an adverse affect on me.

I must admit to getting an ‘itch’ as spring unveils its glorious colours and despite my voracious reading and watching of all things carp, this itch gets much stronger as the days get longer and nature begins to take a grasp of winters’ tail, and surges forward with greenery, growth and life! I’d only been fishing once since Christmas, in Tatton Park with my Pike-mad mates for a few hours, and in a lake that holds only 20 or so carp, I didn’t have high hopes.

As I arrived home from a full week away travelling in the South West in the middle of May, my wife said to me ‘you need to go fishing don’t you?’ to which I replied ‘yes’ she said ‘why don’t you book yourself somewhere?’ I didn’t need telling twice! I spoke to Bridget at Angling Lines to find out what was available early June and found out that a late cancellation at a lake called Genets left the entire lake without a booking for week commencing June 4th. I paid in full and planned to drive taking the Plymouth route to Caen there and then.

Now I’m not one for stocked waters, for the past ten years my limited fishing time has been spent on large European and American/Canadian Rivers, I love the untapped wilderness with no other carp fishermen in sight and abhor the overcrowded ‘stella style’ lakes continue reading…
