Five More Carp, One Lost Fish, Two Nights Left!

By Jake Langley-Hobbs

Carp fishing France at Gigantica

Good Afternoon.

I finished off yesterday’s post with a tempting footnote….I had caught another five carp from the Tree Line swim. Here are the details of those caught carp!

It was Dan’s 36th birthday on the 15th so he cooked a huge BBQ and a few people came over to help him celebrate the occasion. I wandered back to my swim at around 7.30pm keen to get the rods out. I have a feeling that giving the swim a rest is not a bad thing in the Tree Line. Carp always like to stack up in the area when it is hot, and I am sure the lack of lines in the water for a few hours helps to ease their suspicions! It certainly seemed to do the trick and over the next 12 hours I had five takes. Four from the close range rod and one from the middle rod. All the fish were caught on the plastic corn and tiger combo and although none of the fish were huge, they were all pretty fish. The biggest was a 30lb mirror, very heavily scaled, and a real hard fighter. The other carp were all in the 18-25lb bracket. continue reading…

As from winter 2011 Korda will now be taking bookings for Gigantica themselves.  Anyone who’s made a reservation for Gigantica for 2012 & beyond has already been written to and their details, along with any deposits paid, have been forwarded to Korda who will of course honour the bookings.

Here’s a message from Danny Fairbrass;

I would like to formerly advise all anglers that Gigantica bookings from November 2011 will now be processed direct through Gigantica UK on 01268 820440. UK staff that has fished Gigantica will be on hand from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday to process bookings and offer advice on fishing Gigantica. You can e mail booking requests 24 hours a day to bookings@gigantica-carp.com and we will respond during the next working day.

We have chosen to go direct for 2 reasons; firstly we have staff available at Korda HQ to man the phones, all these staff have fished the lake which offers customers a unique opportunity for advice as well a professional service. Secondly we hope to expand our portfolio of waters in Europe in the next 12 months and so will eventually be able to justify dedicated staff to handle bookings.

We have been more than satisfied with Angling Lines and thank them for the excellent service they have provided over the last 3 years. We have personally sent several ‘mystery shoppers’ to them over the years and they have always returned with glowing reports of AL. If our expansion plans do not come to fruition and we struggle to cope with bookings direct we shall not hesitate to come back to AL.

All details of provisional bookings will be passed from AL to us and we will give these people first priority over new enquiries. Keeping existing customers happy is both AL and our primary concern.

Once again thanks to Bridget, David and all the girls at AL, we wish you all the very best for the future.

Tight Lines, Danny Fairbrass

Monster 73lb mirror carpFudgey’s @ 73.09 – Gigantica’s 3rd known 70lb+ carp

So, after a slow first week but with amazing weather so early in the year, last weeks lake exclusive of German anglers really raised the bar for all who follow this year.
Although the group only caught 3 fish for the week ( 6 anglers in the group ) they certainly made the ones they caught, the right ones !!

Look at the width of that carp!

Having seen Fudgeys last year at spawning time, I had predicted that should someone be lucky enough to capture this huge framed fish during the winter, I was certain it would be Gigantica’s 3rd 70lb+ fish. Having made it through the colder conditions without slipping up, and with fish in general in the area showing signs of having fed well through the winter, I wasn’t at all astonished when I was handed the pics of the awesome fish at an all time high, and as predicted, Giganticas 3rd official 70lb+ fish at the massive 73.09lb !!

.
As amazig as Fudgeys is, with its tell tale crinkled bottom tail lobe and huge frame I was actually blown away by the other fish caught as part of the huge brace.
Literally the next day, Klaus caught a fish which I had begun to dismiss as still being here in the depths of Gigantica. This fish, as amazing as it looked in the pics we had of it, from 4 years ago I must add was simply a stunning fish. So much so that D.F. named it the ‘Target’ because it was the ‘one’ we all wanted.

The Tree Line Swim Has Not Disappointed!

By Jake Langley Hobbs

Carp fishing France at Gigantica

Good Afternoon.

Firstly sorry for the delayed post. It is just as well I am going home next week, and buying a new laptop. Yesterday I had issues with my proxy settings, so the day was spent trying different places to get a connection and it proved unsuccessful. It was very frustrating. Anyway here it is and better late than never!

After a quick check on the weather forecast yesterday afternoon and judging by the warmth in the air, it looked like the predicted blue skies and sunshine was definitely on its way. The wind had eased and I had also spotted a few carp in the tree line area. I said I might stay for one more night in the Big Southerly swim, but it was make or break decision time. I have said before that packing up is not really a major hassle, so in less than an hour I was trundling round to the Tree Line swim in my van, and was unloading the gear. I could already feel the tension building up as I got my rods ready. I do believe this maybe my favourite swim that I have fished at, anywhere in my travels to date. That might sound an odd statement considering some of the beautiful, windswept and expansive waters, surrounded by stunning mountain backdrops, but it is the sheer excitement of fishing this kind of swim. The action is explosive, it comes without any warning, you have to hold on for dear life, and once you get the fish clear from the snaggy area, you pretty much can breathe a sigh of relief as you know you’re nearly home and dry. Was the building tension an anti-climax or did the first night back in the Tree Line swim deliver the action I was craving so much? continue reading…

Hi Danny,

I have been thinking about booking a fishing holiday for me and my wife on Gigantica towards the end of autumn but I have a few questions I would like to ask.

I myself am a very confident angler currently fishing Tim Paisley’s Mangrove syndicate as well as a few others but my wife has not had the chance to fish as much as me since she’s been bringing up our two sons.  When we are out together we like to fish together, it helps Karen if I am close by to help if needed.  Don’t get me wrong, Karen has landed many good fish on her own and has taken fish to 41lb 8oz but she lacks confidence in her own ability.  It would also be nice if we are holidaying together we could fish together.  For these reasons I would like to ask if it is possible to share a swim on the lake, or are there any double swims available?

Secondly, what sort of facilities does the site have for women, toilets, showers and such?

It the site close to a village where we could say have a meal or shop, sometimes a short break does the swim good and it’s nice to take a rest.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Alan

Carp fishing in France at GiganticaReply from DANNY TURTLE

Alan,

Thanks for the enquiry. We have 13 swims here at Gigantica, 3 designated doubles and another swim that could, if needed, house a pair. If you would like to fish together properly (as two anglers, not just a snide rod for the wife) we discuss it with the other weeks anglers prior to the draw and it’s generally excepted that you would end up together.

We are very proud of our facilities. We have a wet room / shower room that I’m told, is of the highest standard. Two toilets which are immaculately clean and kept as such.  Our dining area has free tea & coffee and we can, if requested provide the ‘big man’ menu. If you do not indulge with the food package, in the hot weather we always have at least one big BBQ a week which you can attend for 10E per head.

Gigantica carp lake

We are a very short drive from Brienne, our local town which has several supermarkets & bars. Within a 15min drive we have the famous great lakes, Amance, Chanticoq and Orient. All have bars and restaurants as well as water sports for hire, Orient has a wonderful sandy beach as well ! Lot’s to do.

We also have a fresh delivery each day of warm fresh bread and pastries which is a nice touch should you be catering for yourself. We hire bikes, which should you and your wife want to go off for a ride, makes a nice change. We do not provide safety gear for the bikes though should you wish to leave site.

I hope this has answered your questions Alan, but should you require any additional information, feel free to contact me at any time.

Danny
