Dear Jim

I have just read your article on Grosley with much interest as I am taking my son and nephew in April, and I was a bit surprised to see the weather was so cold. We have booked pegs 17a 17b and 18, have you got any other advice for me and should I take my own bait or save some space and buy on site. One more thing is the tackle shop ok or should I stock up on rigs weights before I go. Sorry to ask such boring questions but these bit of info are not on the web site continue reading…

I’ve just had the news and photos in from Eric at Grosley that the stocking of the new carp went ahead as planned just before Christmas.

On the 23rd of December a total of 290 mirror and common carp were introduced to the venue. These were split over the two lakes with 130 fish stocked to the small lake and 160 into the large lake.

The average size of the fish was 23lb. This included 28 fish over 30lb of which 12 went into the small lake. The largest specimen was a superb mirror of nearly 45lb. A further batch of fish over 30lb will be introduced later in January when the lakes have unfrozen.

Jamie Simpson wrote this excellent write up about his recent trip to the Angling Lines venue at Grosley sur Risle on the Quest baits blog.

I recently went on a week long trip to Lac De Grosley in France. A well run 25acre venue in Normandy, and only a 2 1/2 hour drive from Calais. I arrived at a very muddy and sodden venue on the Saturday morning not knowing what lay instore for the forth coming week.

Seven days of hot weather and glorious sunshine followed.

This then sent the Carp into spawning mode, which made the fishing difficult to say the least. Had I been at a venue close to home I would have packed up and left them to get on with it, however when you are on your weeks holiday from work it’s not that simple.

I have been carp fishing for 19 years now and have seen fish spawning many times in the past, however this was the first time I had seen it in France where I could watch it happen over several consecutive days.

Even better was the fact that there is a back channel similar in width to a canal that the Carp can escape to without any worry of line pressure. This was absolutely perfect for standing and watching their activities. I was fortunate enough to watch a group of five mid twenties following each other around and a couple of mid to upper thirties were in the area too. The Carp would regularly thrash against the bank and in particular a tree that stretched into the water, often almost pushing each other onto the bank. continue reading…

grosleysurrisle lake view 03A trip to Grosley this week… I arrived at Grosley surprisingly in the sunshine! Despite the heavy rain over the last few months Grosley remains eminently fishable! The banks were not muddy and even the track for vehicles around the lake was sound. I remember visiting this venue 5 years ago and Eric Touzé the new owner has already worked wonders on the site.

After several years of neglect this wonderful site is being given the opportunity to live up to it’s full potential. Eric has cleared away debris and given the whole place a much needed facelift. More importantly he has re-adjusted the number of and size of some of the swims. A serious angler himself - he is well aware of what makes a good swim and has left much flexibility around the lake. Some swims and areas are ideal for groups of anglers to have whole areas of the lake to themselves – So he is quite prepared to leave certain swims empty to enable groups of anglers to get the most out of their holiday.
