Set up & ready to catch at Lords lake
The Lake
Lords is set in a very quiet, peaceful part of rural France. The lake is about 2.5 acres in size and has recently been dug so it has not yet had time to fully mature. The water level was about 2 foot down when we visited, due to the drought conditions that this part of France has experienced, which made the lake look rather stark. However, six feet of depth was still easy to find.
One real bonus is that you can bivvy up right outside the gypsy style caravan.
There is a minor road by the lake; it didn’t bother us at all as there was only about 5 cars along it during a whole day!
The Fishing
The owner informed me that there was a hot spot in the far left hand corner when viewed from the caravan. I decided to split my efforts between this spot and one in the middle of the lake. I didn’t fish the first night nor the next morning, but I did bait up heavily with particles and Quest chilli chocolate boilies before going out for the day. On arriving back at the lake I cast out the first rod, prepared to cast out the second and the first rod screamed off. I thought “get in there my son”. Baiting up and leaving the swim alone for the fish to move in really pays off. The fish turned out to be a cat of around 29lbs.
Well I sorted myself out and set up for the night, baiting heavily just before dark. I was still tired from the journey, hence I didn’t recast after catching. I didn’t have any rods left in by 1am! I recast at first light and was soon rewarded with a couple more fish, both twenties.
The action was more instant from the spot in the middle of the lake; hence I concentrated my efforts there. I continued with the same tactics of fishing nights/mornings, baiting up heavily before going out for the day with the family and just before dark. Not casting out once a fish was caught at night (you have to sleep sometime). It was very pleasant having a BBQ and a beer by the caravan awaiting the first run of the night… perfect! continue reading…
