Just an update so customers are aware;

* Tackle is no longer for sale at Roseau. We just didn’t get enough demand last year to make it worthwhile continuing I’m afraid.

* Cereal and toast with jam or marmalade is an option at breakfast times instead of a cooked breakfast for those that prefer a lighter option.

* The restaurant / lodge will be getting painted and varnished week commencing 25th June & we’ll also be doing some work on tidying up the shower facilities (however, the shower facilities will still be available 24 hours a day.) I’ll post some before and after pictures of the work that’s carried out over the weekend.

A floater caught Roseau carp!

It seems to be common knowledge to British carp anglers that French carp are near impossible to temp off the surface. The reasons behind this I’m not sure of, at the end of the day carp are carp, right?

When myself and Bas arrived at Roseau, much like many other waters in France we were told, Zigs and floater fishing just didn’t produce. If I’m honest I didn’t think much of it as it wasn’t the first time id heard this sort of comment over here, however within weeks of the season opening fish were coming out to Zigs fished inches under the surface on black foam so I was pretty sure the floaters would produce in the right conditions.
Last week as I mentioned in a previous report we were lucky enough to get the rods out on peg 1 as the lake was not fully booked, we took several fish off the bottom on standard tactics but unfortunately nothing massive. On the Friday I wandered down to peg 1 to pack my shelter and rods away when I saw a good head of carp under the surface, with nothing to loose I grabbed the spod rod and a bag of mixers. After 2-3 spods the carp were having it, good n’ proper! I was in shock to be honest, I wasn’t expecting them to be so keen so quickly.

Anyway I continued spodding mixers for 20mins or so to get there confidence up at which point Bas had noticed the carp slurping floaters and had quickly set up a surface rig. Within minuets of casting out Bas was in, after a spirited battle on light gear a lovely scaled 17.00 mirror was been held up for a photograph. Result!

We carried on fishing for a couple of hours with the fish still confidently taking baits in the area. I had a bit of a nightmare, trying to surface fish with 3lb TC x-flites and 16lb fluorocarbon isn’t easy as I found out. I had no choice but to use my spodding reel with floating braid on coupled with my x-flites, still very unbalanced and far from ideal but at least I could present a bait effectively. I managed two takes in quick concession, unfortunately both resulting in hook pulls. I put it down to it just not been my day, although very pleased to see the tactic clearly works!

Id advise anybody coming over to us at Roseau this year to pack a nice light floater rod and a bag of mixers, it could buy you those few extra bites in the hot day time when most anglers are not catching.

Martyn Brookes & Roy Saunders visited Roseau Small lake on the 24th April 2011.  They had a great session taking 38 carp which included 15 different 30′s & only one fish under 20lb.  Here’s a short video clip of their session;

I’ve just returned from my trip to the small lake at Roseau and was really pleased with not only the fishing but the facilities. Myself and my 3 other angling friends had the lake to ourselves and we all did well on the water.

We are predominently river anglers, so all our PB’s at the beginning of the week were mid 20lb fish but by the end of the week, we had all seen our PB’s increase into the 30lb and above bracket.

We were assisted with advice and swim selection by the bailiffs and the food was superb throughout our stay, thanks to the more than competent culinary skills of Alex.

I know that the bailiffs are extremely busy with looking after the other anglers on the two lakes and don’t often get the time to reply to all questions and messages on here, so if I can assist with any questions, i’ll try my hardest to reply honestly and as helpfully as possible.

Anyway, heres a few pictures of my trip (all images are clickable):

One of Dan’s 79 carp Roseau catch

Watcha Roy,

As promised mate, here are some pics of the fish I had last week. Was a mental week with pretty much non-stop action at times, even though I generally only fished one rod during the day and didn’t often fish through the nights.

79 carp in the week at Roseau

79 carp in the week...

I ended up with 79 carp to 34lb 12oz; 2 sturgeon to 24lb 12oz; a fair few bream and a couple of F1’s. All fish came to 14mm KT30 boilies from CarpBaitUK fished over a small amount of parti-blend/hemp.

Cheers mate for a good week – really enjoyed it and Baz, Alex and Jack were spot on.
