Carp fishing in FranceRewards on a cold winter day at Watersmeet

Here’s the account of Leo & Daves recent trip to Watersmeet (weekend of 14th January);

We arrived Friday, around mid-morning.  We were set up and the rods were in by midday.  Leo has the first fish on within an hour of putting his rods out, tight on bank to the left of the willow.  Unfortunately about 2mtrs from the bank it flips and it’s off!

The weather takes a turn for the worse on Friday with torrental rain and pretty much makes fishing impossible.

French carping

Dave's 31.07

Saturday is overcast but dry.  Dave catches his first fish at 1pm… a 31lb 7oz mirror, from Swim 1, about 3/4 of the way out towards the small inlet.

The 2nd fish came at 4pm from exactly the same spot, this time an orange and black Koi @ 14 lb 5oz.

Finally at 4am we had a small 9lb common.

Sunday was sunny and clear and we only fished a few hours late in the afternoon after doing various jobs around the complex.

All fish on main lake were caught on size 8 anti eject rigs, with single cell boilies.

We fished the top lake for an hour every day after finishing on the main lake & had a couple of carp to around 5lb off the surface with bread.

A fantastic weekend on great lake… fantastic house with great facilities and some stunning fish to boot!

Now this is true winter carping!

Mark Oakes experienced some true winter carping at Laroussi just before Christmas (w/c 26th November 2010).  As you can see from the photo above he experienced around 6 inches of snow and had to come home 2 days early because the lake froze over!

Did he catch?  He sure did…. a 43lb carp & a 51lb sturgeon.

He deserves a medal we reckon!

What a magnificent fish!
51.02 of Winter Magic from Lac du Val

After working all week on Lac du Val my usual Sunday fishing came around and I started fishing around 8.30am.  I didn’t have to wait long for my first fish… it came at 10.30am in the shape of a beautiful round mirror of 26lb 8oz.

I then brought my 3 rods back in to re-bait and changed two of the rigs for sharper hooks. I then recast all my rods against the dam wall.

Not much later I had one beep. I was on my feet in a flash, lifting the rod in my usual way and feeling for the fish. It arched around and proved to be on. After a 15 minute fight a magnificant 51lb 2oz common slides over the net!  A really beautiful fish which was nearly 4ft long.

What a cracking day in the middle of winter and all this due to the new bait that Shaun Harrison has made for us for this coming season. Thanks Shaun!

All the best, Dave Harding

48.07 common for Russ at Lac du Val – note the snow!
My dad, Terry, has known Dave, the owner of Lac du Val, for over 30 years and over the Xmas holidays, and with the snow still on the ground, we went to see him for the day.  When we arrived we found Dave already fishing and this helped with my next question which was could I join him for a day’s fishing before my return to England?  Imagine my surprise when he said yes!
He then rigged my rods up for me with his new 2011 bait, which Shaun Harrison of Quest Baits has made for him specially.  Dave had already had good results with this bait with a massive 58lb mirror on his birthday and had since landed another 7 fish in the bad weather.
He then set my rigs up for winter fishing.  Dave landed 2 x 30’s while we were watching which bucked me up no end, but I was still getting used to the way Dave had instructed me on his winter method.  I was standing there scratching my head, trying to understand; one or two bleeps on the buzzers… he then lifts the rod without moving the rig end.  He then puts one hand on the line and feels for the fish.  Dave makes this method seem even dafter as he is laughing all the time!  If he feels the fish he tightens down on to it… and low and behold… he is in!
