Carp fishing in France at Roseau

A misty morning start at Roseau

I’m booked on Roseau on the 28th of May on the large lake and can’t wait.  Any tips for when I go if I end up getting a swim where I can only fish open water? Any more tips for this lake would be great. Cheers.

If you’re looking for tips the best place to start would be the customer feedback on the Angling Lines website.  Using the feedback, which you can filter just to the months you’re visiting if you like, you can build up quite a good picture of what works and what doesn’t.

The fish are always hungry on this complex, so keep the feed going in.  To be honest when the action dies off then that’s a good sign to put more bait in.

You’ve got 3 rods so don’t throw all your eggs in one basket, try 3 different approaches and whatever is standing out, switch to that.

The restaurant at Roseau is a great place to relax

The fish don’t like the disturbance caused by spods, it’s quite a shallow lake with pretty uniform depths and with the load splosh of a spod they tend to shy away for a few hours.  However, don’t be overly concerned by this, they will return and feed pretty quickly.

I like to tip my baits off with plastic corn & for me personally this stood out last season.  That’s not to say that single baits didn’t work, because they caught Roseau’s fair share too!

On average, anglers were using around 5kg of boilies, 10kg of party blend and 5kg of pellet.  I know this seems quite a lot of bait but when you consider the stock levels for a lake of this size, and the fact that it’s only open for a relatively portion of a season, it’s no wonder the catch rates are so high!

If you do get a swim where you can fish to the island don’t be fooled into thinking you have to be tight up against it.  The fish in Roseau like to feed about 10ft off into open water. Some might think I’m saying this for fish welfare but there isn’t any snags etc or anything to bring them harm, so I’m really not.  Try close up and then try 10ft off, I guarantee this will produce more fish for you.
But really, don’t be disheartened if you get an open water swim.

I hope this is of help to all those visiting Roseau in the near future.  If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Best regards, Roy Fulton.
