One of Rob Allen’s 150 carp haul from Sapphire in October 2010
Those of you who have been following the development of Sapphire Lake will recall that a net was placed across the bottom end of the lake in June 2010. This was done after anglers commented that the carp had begun to take refuge in a large area of lily pads in a restricted area of the lake.
Some great catch reports and angler feedback in the second half of the season indicated that the net had been a resounding success.

Another one of Rob's mega catch
Despite this, Michel and Laurent Bigot (and many anglers) were not convinced that it would provide a sensible long-term solution. The main worry being that carp would always find a way over or under the net. Besides, no one likes to see artificial barriers in a natural environment.
So the net has been removed, the lily pads have been drastically reduced and a new swim is under construction beyond the tree line at the far end of the lake. Angler pressure can now be applied at both ends of the lake and the fish will be inclined to move along the length of the water. This should be excellent news for anglers fishing mid way along the lake.
Fishing will be restricted to one side of the lake only, with no exceptions. This means that whatever peg you draw, you will not see anglers on the opposite bank.
