News Report - August 2002

With the weather going from roasting hot to cold, dull and rainy, the fishing has been far from consistent over the summer period so far. This patchy weather has resulted in some huge catches though, often followed by waters switching off altogether. The fortunate anglers have therefore made a killing on the good weeks, while the unlucky one have struggled.... a frustrating time and catching is very much down to your good fortune. Numerous lake record have tumbled and a lot of big fish have been caught.
So here's a brief round up of some of the venues:

Forest Lake (Etang de Maucreux)
More news of this exciting little lake. Field testing has been concluded and the work is being carried out to install toilet and kitchen facilities close to the lake side.

I fished there for three nights a while back with my friends John Richards and Derek Glenister.  In this short session we managed 12 carp between us. Not a mega-haul I hear you say,  but 10 of these fish were over 30lb. The thirties weighed between 31lb and 34lb 4oz. I was fortunate enough to land 6 thirty pound plus fish, while John had a 33lb 2oz mirror soon after landing a mid twenty. Derek finished on 4 fish .... three thirties and a twenty.

We believe that this lightly stocked 3 acre lake holds somewhere in the region of 40 fish. We saw at least one carp that was bigger than any we caught. The owner plans to stock a number of double fish during the winter to make the action somewhat more consistent.

The carp are all young healthy fish and will no doubt progress well. A exciting prospect for a small group of anglers (4 max).

Etang le Roseau
This lake has been simply awesome this year with huge catches being recorded. The lake record was broken twice in a fortnight from the small lake, firstly  with a 42lb mirror to Keith Greenfield. Keith also landed a 60lb plus catfish during the same session, along with other fish to over 30lb... a great week¹s fishing. Then on Thursday 25 July a French angler landed a mighty carp at 46lb 2oz. The large lake has been producing the bulk of the fish though, and has benefited enormously from the introduction of the stock fish earlier in the season. The number of 20lb fish being banked has improved also. The best fish so far this summer was a superb 36lb common. Last week the number of fish landed beat all records with over 600 carp being banked . The majority of these were doubles, as is the norm for this ultra-productive lake, but none the less 70 carp in the twenties graced the banks. Anglers looking for a venue where flying indicators are all but guaranteed .... this is your venue!  There is a bar and restaurant on-site which adds that touch of comfort. (Oh! yeah we¹ve got Christophe serving proper pints of beer now, none of this half measure jobbies).  More ....

Etang du Brionnais

The variable weather conditions have had their effect on this venue as on others. More recently and more importantly since the carp have spawned,  there have been some good catches and what's more some big carp landed. Since the pegs on the far bank have been removed the carp hang out in the far margin.... stands to reason. Here the use of bait boats helps enormously. Angler Martin John had a nice haul recently from the peg on chalet 5. He took fish of 24lb 2oz; 31lb 3oz; 37lb 4oz; 40lb 7oz & 44lb ......all the fish were taken in a mad spell of four hours angling. The stuff dreams are made of and for Martin they certainly came true.  More ...

Etang des Vinçons

This venue really is a marvelous success story and has turned into an absolutely brilliant carp venue. The lake is stuffed with fish and catches have been absolutely stunning. The fish granted aren't massive, mid to upper doubles being the norm with a smattering of twenty pound fish thrown in. Here's a small sample of the feedback we've received:

6 - 12 April John & Phillip Kingston 67 carp to 26lb 4oz
20 - 27 April Sam, Mick & Pete 140 carp, 25 over 20lb, best 25lb
1 - 7 June Jason, Lee, Steve & Keith from Kent 313 carp, 19 over 20lb best 25lb 8oz
6 - 13 July Dave, Jamie, Tony & Mark  136 carp, 9 over 20lb best 26lb 8oz.

As you can see there has been no shortage of action for the visiting anglers.  The Bouchot family will give you a great welcome. It has to be one of the nicest little venues in France.  More ...

Etang de Boux

This phenomenal lake came up trumps for one angler named Mike. Following a week where he landed 18  x 20lb plus fish and 3 thirties to 38lb he topped a good week off with two runs at once as he was packing away. The first fish that was landed swiftly weighted in at 22lb but the other one that felt like a "Donkey" according to Mike & tipped the scales at a huge 48lb 4oz. Quite a way to finish a week's fishing I'd say.  More ...
