October 2003 Newsletter

Hello Fellow Carp Fishers

Well the French carp fishing holiday season is drawing to a close now and the nights getting shorter. In fact after weeks of stifling heat waves, one can feel that Autumn is definitely announcing that Winter is just around the corner. I even had frost on my unhooking mat earlier in the week.

The major news this month is the release of our superb 2004 brochure. This classy 48 page full colour catalogue, gives full details of our 32 venues, including glossy photos and quick info. so you can see all you need to know at a glance. I think you'll agree that it is an impressive booklet and available to you free of charge, either by ringing our office or downloading a PDF file from this Website.

The second piece of news is that we will be present at the Carp Society's Winter Conference at Sandown Park. The event will be the 29 & 30th of November covering two days.  We will be on Stand 59 so please come along and have a chat.

Here then is a round up of some catches from a selection of our venues over the recent weeks:

Les Vinçons

This farm lake in the centre of France has to be one of the nicest places I've ever had the pleasure to fish. With it's lakeside chalet, swimming pool and excellent hot shower and toilet in the farm court yard, it is a very good venue for small groups of anglers and families. The lake is stuffed to the gunwales with carp that go to just over 30lb. The bread and butter fish is in the high double bracket, but they fight like stink. In short it's a real gem. Facilities will be further improved for the 2004 season with the addition of a gite that will sleep up to six people.

The last week of August saw the Hewlett family on the venue, Kevin, Barney, Dudley and Mandy. They banked 76 carp, 17 x twenties to 26lb 8oz 58 doubles to 19lb 8oz & 1 single.  They commented: "the carp are wonderful and fight like nothing we've ever experienced....!!!"

Darren with a 24.09 Vincon common

September saw a couple of anglers Darren and Mark on the lake. Their catches were similar to the previous group, showing that it had not slowed down one iota.

Mark finished with 16 fish for 192lb where as Darren landed 23 fish for 286lb. The majority were in the 15lb -18lb bracket with the best fish going 24lb 9oz. Their tactics were frozen 20mm boilies as hook bait and fifteen 15mm boilies as loose feed per rod per cast.

Their comments: " A superb holiday! Beautiful surroundings, excellent hospitality, and an abundance of wildlife "   Go to Vincons ...

Le Village

This lovely established venue continues to make its name as one of the best overall venues in France. Feedback received from Phil Tomlinson who fished with his friend Carl Robinson from 27th Sept to 3rd October, shows another great haul totalling 69 fish between them. Phil alone had a total of 40 carp which included 14 x 20's, 11 x 30's, a 42.8oz and best of all a 50.04oz mirror - his new PB ! Phil fished peg 16 and caught his PB at a range of around 70 yards on Nutrabaits Trigga fished over parti-blend, pellets and hemp. Carl also had an excellent haul with 29 fish, his biggest a 32lb+ common. He also caught 2 catfish of 53lb and 62lb.

Just to give you an idea of how productive in good fish the lake has been here is a summary of one week's catches from the 6th to 13th September 2003.
Carp Catfish
52 above 22lb 1x 40lb
24 between 22lb to 33lb 1x 46lb 2oz
24 between 33lb to 44lb 1x 50lb 6oz
1x 48lb 4oz 1x 107lb 8oz

Ribière

The Domaine de la Ribière has certainly been going from strength to strength this year, and has to be among the best in France for the facilities offered and for the extraordinary fishing carpers have enjoyed this year.

Following on from the lake record reported last month at 51lb 4oz to Matt Bonner.
Well it has tumbled again within a month, with a massive mirror weighing in at 51lb 8oz, this time to a French angler Oliver Damazo, who was literately left speechless by the capture. Running to fetch the owner Michel, he was only able to express himself with gestures, such was his excitement. He was fishing from peg 1 and the giant carp was the last run of a short weekend session in which he bagged 7 carp. He had all his tackle packed in the car with just his rods to go when he struck into the fish that smashed his personnel best by a significant margin.

Another spectacular weekend session on the venue was from 18th to 21st October by French angler Marc Acqauire fishing from peg 5. Using fishmeal boilies he landed eight carp for an incredible average of 34lb 9oz. They were mirrors of 26lb 4oz; 29lb 10oz; 33lb 4oz; 34lb 8oz; 40lb 10oz; 41lb 8oz & 43lb 12oz and a common of 22lb. A really fabulous session and one that shows the quality of angling now available on this outstanding venue.   Go to Ribiere ...

Marcusans

This new and superbly picturesque gravel pit has seen very little pressure. It has a very good head of carp, including mirrors, commons and grass carp to over 50lb. During the first part of September three of our customers on the venue managed a creditable tally, in conditions where the carp were really not playing the game. Ian, Paul and Tom were on the lake from 28 August to the 4 September and the conditions proved some what difficult. They nonetheless landed 11 doubles to 19lb 12oz, 3 twenties to 24lb and 2 thirties of 32lb and 35lb.

They commented: " an absolutely fantastic week... the surroundings take your breath away.  We shall return again next year without doubt."

While not an out and out big fish water it does have a few lumps present. The owner has been stocking extra fish too, and a further ton of fish is planned for this winter. I shall keep everybody informed when this stocking happens.    Go to Marcusans ....

Roseau

This excellent runs water has been producing some superb catches once again.  The fish are piling on the weight too, so the chance of a big carp is a real possibility as well as some highly impressive bags of fish. Situated at less than two hours from Calais it is a very convenient venue, especially with it's on-site bar and restaurant facilities.

Daren Buck and his family were there from the 19th September for a short three day session.  Their technique was to use a Method feeder with cat and dog pellets and 20mm boilies as hook baits. The action was pretty consistent for the 2 anglers and non-angler Dad, along for the trip. The finished on 525lb of carp with the largest going
a whopping 38lb.

Daren commented: "We had a fantastic weekend and would highly recommend it to your customers.  One bit of advice, don't worry about the bivvy, you wont to have time to use it."     Go to Roseau ...

Morganes

This small exclusive venue has been proving that the huge head of carp make it an ideal venue for anglers wanting to get straight into the action. The mobile home facilities also make for a very comfortable session.

Three anglers Gareth Exton, Alan Hurt, John Maslen who fished the lake in early September had a spectacular haul of carp, especially when one considers they only fished days. Their tally was 3 x thirties, 17x twenties, 117 x doubles averaging 16lb, and 5 singles. Their tactics consisted of fishing Richworth Strawberry boilies to the centre of the lake with a few free offerings.

They commented: "a good week's fishing, new PB's all round - well worth the long drive!"      Go to Morganes....

La Traque

We've not had much feed back from this venue this season, but word on the grapevine is that, as expected, it's been fishing very well.

Although somewhat belated this report from Bill Holcombe who was on the lake at the end of August, seems to back up the reports we've heard.  He had a very creditable catch landing 42 of his 64 runs.  The largest fish if the week was a superb 34lb 8oz mirror. In all he bagged 27 doubles, 13 twenties and the one thirty.  His successful tactics were single bottom fruit boilie on gravel patches in the margins, with a few free offerings scattered around.

Bill commented: "can't wait to go back again...  am going to tell everybody but everybody about the Goncourt Complex, and will certainly recommend Angling Lines"

As a note: the Goncourt Great Lake has received and extra stocking of over 100 carp that have been netted from the other lakes not open to fishing on the venue. This should up the number of runs experienced on this impressive piece of water markedly. I can't wait to get down a fish there.....!!!!      Go to Traque ....

Well that's it for this month. See you next month with more Angling Lines Holidays news.

Cheers,
