January 2004 Newsletter

Winter is nearly over and we are all looking forward to the Spring and the new season of carp fishing. The main news on the Angling Lines front this month is the addition of some new venues and the inclusion of videos on our website.

We are in exciting times at present with numerous opportunities to represent carp fishing venues from around the world presenting themselves to us. Until now we have specialised in the French carp market, but over the next few months we intend to offer you new venues from around the world . We will be representing the a new venue in South Africa and we are in negotiation with other venues in America, Spain, the Canary Isles and Belgium. We'll keep you informed....

Videos
Our on-line streaming video pages offer a great way to see a venue before you visit it. T hrough the use of filmed clips we can present a lake and its facilities, giving you a great insight & helping you chose the venue that is right for you. The plan is to visit as many of our venues as possible during the spring and summer 2004. We can't possibly cover all the venues this year... so if you have good quality Mini DV footage of a trip to one of our lakes please drop us a line - we'll pay for anything we use. Show me the videos.

The other news this month is the addition of several new venues to the Angling Lines portfolio of carp fisheries:

Africa
Many anglers will have heard of or read about the superb carp fishing available in South Africa. Angling Lines are pleased to be able to announce that we will now be representing these venues.  This established outfit offers South Africa's leading adventure carping holidays and is run and owned by British ex-pat Martin Davidson. He offers anglers three of the most productive big fish venues available in South Africa. These include;
  • Klaserie Dam which has the best track record for producing big fish of any angling venue anywhere in South Africa. I t holds the current South African and Southern Hemisphere record for a carp, standing at 64lb caught in 2001.

  • Donaldson Dam - t his productive water of just over 20 acres has produced eight fish over 50lb, up to 57lb, and contains no fewer that twenty to twenty-five fish over 40lb, most of which immaculate commons .

  • Snagmere which is approximately 250 acres in size.  Exclusive fishing rights have been obtained to some of the most secluded areas of this water and the operators are confident it will produce many 50lb+ fish, as well as some big surprises.

The operators certainly has a package to suit every angler, assuring you of a carp fishing holiday of a lifetime .   We are visiting the venues in early March so we'll have Web pages & video for you to see soon.

On to the French venues now ; a ll the se lakes are situated in North West area of France between 1 and 3 hours from the Normandy ferry ports.

Etang des Vaux
The Etang des Vaux is situated on the border between Normandy and Brittany in a charming village, among lush and green countryside ,  just two hours from the ferry port of Caen.  The site has excellent accommodation in the form of a superbly renovated mill house on the lakeside. The house has been refurbished to a very high standard from top to bottom. With two bathrooms and three bedrooms there is capacity for two families. The very comfortable sitting room is equipped with English Sky TV.

The very pretty 2½ acre lake has been stocked with carp from low doubles to upper twenties. In total over 240 carp are present in the water so action is pretty much guaranteed.  The close proximity to the ferry, the superb accommodation and the large quantity of carp in the lake should ensure that Vaux is a very sought after venue in the months to come. Local amenities are close and of a high quality. Vaux is run by and English couple, Chas and Josie Cook so communication will be no problem.

Hooked in France - Les Montautiers
Hooked in France (Les Montautiers) is an established venue situated just 1¼ hrs from St. Malo. The lake is 5 acres in size and can be booked exclusively for up to 6 anglers, although individual non-exclusive bookings are also taken. This beautiful lake is over 350 years old and is bordered by mature oak and traditional French poplars.  Its appearance reminds one of an old English estate lake.

It has many features including two islands, overhanging trees, reeds, bays, several sets of pads and a large channel between the islands and the hidden plateaus. During this winter the water has undergone some extensive, but necessary, repair work. It has been drained completely, redug in many areas, with the banks consolidated around much of the perimeter. Certain swims have been rebuilt and landscaping undertaken. The lake is stocked with mirror, common and leather carp in the 15-40lb bracket with a good number of fish over the 30lb mark.

Lac du Val
Lac du Val is a 4 ½ acre lake set in northern Normandy, less than an hour's drive from the ferry port of Caen. The privacy of the site allows peaceful and tranquil family holidays with safe night fishing in lush rural surroundings.  A maximum of five anglers may fish at any one time and it is possible to book the lake exclusively.

Val is owned by English couple, David and Sammy Harding, and will be opened to the public for the first time this year. The lake is of the small Estate type, surrounded by grassy banks, dammed at one end and with two islands providing a natural haven for the carp at the top end.

The facilities are excellent. The angler's room has a toilet and shower as well as a bait freezer.  There is even a tumble dryer in case your clothes become wet or need drying quickly during poor weather.  Adjacent to the lake is a fully equipped mobile home which is fitted out with all the modern conveniences - cooker, fridge, microwave, bathroom with shower and toilet. English Sky TV is also available. The mobile home can sleep up to four people (one double bedroom and a convertible bed settee). A chalet that sleeps two further people will be installed prior to the coming season.

The current stock is around 120 carp, with more fish to be stocked before the start of the 2004 season, to give a total population of around 150 fish. The two largest residents go over 40lb, at 42lb and 48lb.
