Despite near drought conditions in most parts of France the summer is still hesitating and temperatures are all over the place, varying from blazing sunshine one day to cloudy, cooler conditions the next. The fish seem to have been feeding in fits and starts, with one week producing exceptional catches and the next blank sessions. Carpers that have been fortunate to get on the back of a good week have had some superb fishing and many of the venues have been throwing up big fish and big bags of fish.
Ribiere
One such water is the Domaine de la Ribière. Following last months news of a 2004 best at 51lb in early May, a report has just reached us of an extraordinary session by English anglers Chris King and Dave Morcaster fishing from the 25 th May to the 4 th June .
The lads landed over 45 carp between them, which included 51lb 7oz; 50lb 6oz; 44lb; 42lb, 40lb 7oz; 2x 36lb, 35lb 2oz; 34lb; 2x 33lb; 31lb. The successful techniques used were a mixture of anti-eject and stiff rigs with 15mm Premier boilies. As has been the norm when the carp really get their heads down here fish came around the clock, the two largest fish coming out around midday .
This water is throwing up some huge carp at the moment and together with its top class facilities it offers the very best in both angling and accommodation.

Roseau
This northern French venue has become well known for its non-stop action on the large lake, where as the small lake behind has been somewhat overshadowed. That is until a group of lads fishing from 12 - 19 th June redressed the balance and showed us some of the big fish that inhabit this little water.
The absolute highlight for Shane Sherwood and his mate Stuart Mills was the capture of a massive 80lb catfish. This beast has been hooked on a number of occasions… but rare are the anglers that have successfully banked it! The large cat took a GB Baits boilies, proving once again that the big catfish often turn up while carp fishing, with no particularly special tactics needed. Shane managed a final tally of 20 carp including a huge 41lb mirror that was part of a haul that included 6 other carp over 25lb.

Brionnais
Another of the Angling Lines venues with excellent waterside accommodation that has proved a popular choice for families. The chalets can sleep up to six and there are activities including coarse fishing for the youngsters. It has a very good head of superbly conditioned carp too - to nearly fifty pounds.
A session in May by Twan Nefkens proved the point perfectly and saw him bank over 60 fish - 47lb, 40lb 7oz, 29lb 7oz, 2x 26lb 4oz, 24lb 2oz… and all the other fish were between 12-22lb, with an average of 18lb.
His successful technique was to fish with homemade boilies on a bed of particles (bird seed and pellets) and tigers on a bed of tigers and hemp. He commented “Very nice water with lots of fish, also very nice fishing for children. Jean-Guy & Arlette are very nice people and very helpful”

Vaux
This new venue for 2004 has really proved to be a quality destination. Not only is the lakeside house top class - a veritable home form home - but the fishing has been proving rather good too The large head of fish stocked into the lake by Chas have grown extremely well and his suspicions that a few large original fish existed in the lake have been proven correct. A week from 15-22 nd May, by Mr J Freeman, produced an excellent haul of carp.
They landed 54 fish including 11 x 20s and 8 x high doubles “We all had PB’s during the week, but lost about 26 between us, snapped off and hook pulls” Their tactics were Maple 8, Tutti Fruities & Tiger Nut boilies, fished tight to the far bank. |

“The lakeside house at Vaux – fish from your bedroom window!”

Their comments were; “Our first trip to France and we couldn't have asked for better! The weather was brilliant, the venue peaceful and very relaxing and there’s so much wildlife around. The house is superb and frankly too good to rent out! The lake is perfect, just the right size for us and we liked it being exclusive. It's ideal for both experienced and inexperienced anglers. We plan on going back again. And - very important - listen to Chas's advice (even though we didn't) because he really knows his lake.”
