May 2004 Newsletter

The summer is now virtually upon us and the long days of winter all but forgotten. Many of the venues have been producing some superb catches and some very large carp have graced our customers landing nets.

With regard to the venues themselves, things are moving on at a pace and we are proud to be able to offer an even larger choice of destinations both in France and around the world. Here is a brief overview of the six newest sites we are able to offer:

Gareth

The Ebro - Famous for massive catfish but there's excellent carp fishing too...

Spain - The River Ebro: Situated on the spectacular River Ebro in North Eastern Spain, this venue offers a professionally guided fishing service for anglers wishing to experience the fantastic fishing that the Ebro has to offer. Your hosts, Andy and Nick Shattock, offer you both boat and bankside fishing with specialist guides available for both carp and catfish. This venue has extensively researched the river and now offers an unrivalled guide to the area's hot spots and best swims. Their custom fitted boat can be launched on all parts of the river and being based in a prime location they are able to offer different marks daily.

The superb setting right on the
banks of the St. Lawrence...

America: Most anglers will be aware of the potential of the St. Lawrence in Canada, but perhaps the US side is less known in the UK.  This venue located in the United States on the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River. The complex is run by Jerry & Marcy Laramay and their family.  You can use two rods on the North American side of the river (you can only use one on the Canadian side) and night fishing is no problem.  Packages include: full-board & self-catering packages, an expert guide with 20 years of experience, transportation to and from the airport, fully equipped kitchenettes that are clean and comfortable, fully prepared meals with shore-side lunches served fresh daily.  The fishing needs no introduction. the same hard fighting commons that have made the river's reputation are on offer and in plentiful numbers.

Fishabil: This famous French venue needs no introduction. A superb lake with an absolutely huge head of carp, it rates as one of the very best in France. The pegs are well spaced out and extremely comfortable and it has excellent lakeside accommodation in the form of self-catering units, as well as rooms available in the Old Mill house.

Windmill Lakes - a gorgeous setting...

Windmill Lakes: A complex made up of two four acre lakes in a superb setting. Both lakes are extremely pretty and set in a large and totally private domain. One lake holds carp to 40lbs+ with a healthy head of big fish and would appeal to the more serious carper, where as the second lake has a large head of mixed coarse fish and carp and would be more suited to the all round angler and perhaps the pole carp angler. A lake side caravan, shower and toilet are available on-site.

Now onto some catch returns from a few of our other venues...

Les Burons: This new venue for 2004 certainly seems to be a little gem.  Not only is it a very pretty lake set in the lush Normandy countryside, but it offers first rate fishing, excellent service and lakeside accommodation. Paul Fletcher recently fished Burons, here are his comments:

One to watch - Les Burons....

" We had a wonderful trip to Les Burons. The set up is fantastic, the lake picturesque, the fishing top quality and the hospitality we enjoyed from Rob, Lin, Matt & Amy is the best we have experienced in all the years (15 now!) of fishing related holidays. On top of all that the sun shone for the whole week and we were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Loire, Normandy & Brittany!  Nothing was too much trouble for Rob & Lin and they offer a great service to Angling Lines customers. I suspect this one will fill up very quickly next season!  My catch return was as follows... 44 runs... 36 Carp landed.... 27 were 20lb+... 8 over 25lbs " Show me Burons.

Ribiere: Every year this superbly set-up venue throws up some fantastic catches and 2004 is proving to be no exception. It has a huge head of good fish and most anglers manage to connect with some of the larger residents. David Curtis was there during the first week in May and despite the unusually cold and damp conditions for the time of the year he had a huge haul of fish. Using Nash Tangee Squid boilies he banked 31 carp of which 3 were singles, 11 were doubles, 12 were twenties, 3 thirties (37lb 4oz, 36lb 3oz & 32lb 4oz) and 3 forties (48lb 7oz, 42lb 9oz & 42lb 8oz.) Fish came around the clock but were predominantly during the evening, night and early morning.

Village: First reports of the season have been coming in on this fabulous venue in northern France that just seems to get better every year. Anglers braving the unseasonably cool weather have had great catches and some large carp and bags have been taken.  Jamie Simpson and his mates were on the lake in May.  Here is what they had to say about the venue.

" Le Village was perfect for our requirements having excellent facilities including a very good shower that is kept clean and tidy by the owners and anglers alike. The porta-loos are also clean and well maintained, which makes a very pleasant change in France.  The restaurant & bar serves a nice steak & chips and pint for less than a tenner which is just what you want when you've had a cold and wet day. Jean Marie speaks good English and Gisele understands most of the things you might want.  Having visited France on fishing trips over 8 years now I can honestly say that Le Village has the best facilities on any venue I have fished and I will certainly be hoping to go back in the near future.
