Angling Lines News Report – November 2004
Another year draws to a close - with ice on the bivvies and fog around the lakes only the hardy few are still out there fishing in France during the winter months. In the holiday business we are reaching our busiest time of the year, as anglers understandably fed up with the cold weather, un-cooperative carp and short days yearn for the sultry evenings of mid-summer and next years holiday.
Angling Lines DVD
By the time you read this our new DVD will be available and what better tool to help you choose your 2005 destination than a guided video tour of the venues. During this summer we visited nearly all of our French venues and made short films. Already available on the Internet they are short five to seven minute clips, with lake views, anglers catching fish and interviews with owners and fishermen etc. All the films were shot simply by turning up on spec to a fishery, just like you would yourselves. Nothing was staged. What you see in the films is what you get! If you’d like a FREE copy give us a call.

Angling Lines Bait
The second major development for 2005 is the launch of our own range of quality carp baits. As many will know we’ve been supplying bait on an adhoc basis for a number of years now, but this year we’ve streamlined the operation and we’re proud to announce our very own bait… the Angling Lines Special. This isn’t just a re-badged bait - it’s a boilie developed by one of our staff and used with great success for over ten years in France – it was responsible for the outstanding catches achieved by David Keep at our Laroussi venue this autumn. Based around a fishmeal base mix with robin red and crab flavour it looks and smells the part and it will be available in both fresh and ready-made form. Added to this will be a whole range of boilies, pellets and particles produced specially for us and available mail order. Finally, Angling Lines Bait Packs will be available ready and waiting for you at a number of our French venues. These will consist of 5kg AL Special ready-mades, 4.5kg of pellets plus the dip and pop ups. More details will follow in the next few weeks.

Lac de Tertre , Belgium
While winning no prizes for the prettiest lake in Europe the Lac de Tertre is certainly up amongst the very best in the World for the size of carp that it holds. Having thrown up its first 60lb monster earlier this year a recent session by Belgian carp angler Marcel Rousseau was just staggering.
During nine days this autumn, split into three-day sessions, he landed a staggering 2,900lbs of carp of which an incredible 17 were over 44lb (20kgs). His technique was simple and consisted of mass baiting with pellets, delivered to the spot by baitboat. Hook baits were halibut pellets, fished on standard hair rigs.
The catches of these last few weeks have been the culmination of a year that has seen this big fish angler land no less than 27 fish over 20kg (44lb) and tops off his best last winter of 26 kgs (57lb 2oz). Lac de Tertre is no doubt set to become one of the top big fish destinations in the World

Laroussi
In the short time we’ve had this venue on the Angling Lines books it’s certainly caused a stir - the average weight of fish it’s produced has been nothing short of exceptional.
A case in point was the remarkable catch that fell to a young French angler Stephane Carpéné - now there’s a name for a carp angler - he landed 2 carp for 104lb 12oz in just 45 minutes! The first was a was a 49lb specimen and the second a new lake record of 55lb 12oz, a known fish called “Caro”, coming only minutes after releasing the first carp.
In total during his weeks stay he also had mirrors of 40lb, 26.5lb, 26.5lb, 30lb, 31lb, 33lb and sturgeon of: 40lb, 40lb, 40lb, 47.5lb …giving the following averages;
- Mirror average: 36lb+
- Sturgeon average : 42lb+
- Total average : 30lb+
Fishing the ‘Anse’ swim his successful tactics were Mainline ‘Fusion’ pop-ups over a bed of pellets and free offerings, size 6 ESP Raptor hooks with a coated braid hook link peeled back near the hook and a 4oz lead.
Stephane takes up the story: “I was on the point of packing up when I had the first run. I felt a big fish, making slow rushes and hugging the bottom. After a heavy fight I lifted the monster onto my unhooking mat. What a fish! My PB pulverised, on the scales she goes 49lb. Yippee!, photos done I delicately release the fish. As I go to reel in my two remaining rods a second run occurs. Incredible! The same heavy fight… very heavy. My heart is going at 100 miles an hour as I see the fish, and manage to slide it into my net. This carp is quite simply massive… 55lb 12oz and a new lake record!!”

Ribiere
Another venue that has been consistently throwing up huge carp is Ribiere near Limoges . Set in an extremely pretty park with luxury accommodation it has to be one of France ’s top venues. A couple of outstanding results were had by anglers in October.
Mr Hayes was at the venue from 2nd to 16th October. He landed an impressive 28 fish over 20lb, 19 over 30lb; 40lb, 41lb, 44lb mirrors; 47½lb common; 2 x 49lb mirrors. Tactics consisted of fishing to the far side of lake.
Another autumn visitor, Trevor Hitchman, managed to land 13 fish during his week. These included a new personal best mirror carp of 40lb 2oz, along with 5 doubles, 5 twenties, and 2 thirties. His tactics consisted of a simple hinged rig with mainly Monster Crab or Nash F1 boilies over a bed of high particle content groundbait – bait boated out. All his fish came at distance.
He commented: One of the best fishery complexes in France . The owner, his wife and of course Eric were all very helpful. Renting the gite enabled us to take turns away from the lake in the morning and was money well spent. Brilliant week!!.
