Angling Lines News Report – September 2004
Summer is now behind us and as the season moves forward towards autumn, the cooler temperatures are naturally having their effect on our favourite species' feeding habits. The bulk of the summer throughout France certainly seemed very patchy, with some good catches, but with many lakes struggling to produce consistent form. A few anglers were however in the right place at the right time, which I suppose at the end of the day is all part of carp fishing.

Laroussi
This new venue mentioned last month, in the shadow of the famous Le Mans 24 hour's circuit, is certainly proving a good and popular find. The lake has been producing some awesome catches over the last few weeks.
Angling Lines Director David Keep gave the lake a crack from the 16-23 September. Fishing on the pegs of the "La Pointe" and "Les Deux Saules", David and his brother Kevin had a fantastic haul of carp, landing a brace of high forties at 49lb 8oz and 47lb 12oz, along with seven other 30lb plus fish to 38lb 6oz and a number of good twenties. Just for good measure they had Sturgeon to 45lb.
David Commented: "Laroussi is a typical French gravel pit - the bottom's like a mountain range - so it makes for very interesting fishing. We picked our spots, spodded out fairly big beds of partiblend and boilies, and then it was a case of hoping we'd picked the right features. When the big fish moved in the problem was holding them. In retrospect we probably should have used more bait."

Other phenomenal catches were recorded by Sam Slinger who was on the venue for 14-21 august and landed 53 carp for a total of over 1566lb with an average weight of 29lb 5oz. These included 1 double, 31 twenties to 29lb 12oz, 17 thirties to 38lb 8oz and 4 forties to 48lb 5oz. He also landed sturgeon to 45lb plus.
He commented: "It was an excellent week, the weather perfect for fishing with rain, storms and sun..absolutely fantastic!!!"
Finally Paul Jackerman and his friend managed some 67 fish during their 11-18 September trip. This included 31 twenties to 29lb plus, 16 thirties to 37lb 5oz and 5 forties to 46lb.

Beau Lacs
This magnificent lake of 27 acres set in the lush French countryside on the Normandy / Brittany border is a new venue for 2005. Stocked with some 300 common and mirror carp it offers 15 pegs for a maximum of 10 anglers and is a lovely place to spend a carp fishing holiday.
Anglers present during the shooting of our video where able to bank several superb carp over the course of the weekend we spent at the lake. A group of four French anglers landed 9 carp, including commons to 27lb 8oz and mirrors to 30lb 8oz. English anglers Andy Nethercott and his friends Bob, Dennis and Paul, on the venue from 18-25 September, were able to bank some superb carp of a high average size. In total they had 11 fish to 27lb 12oz.

Heather Lakes
A new venue for 2005 Heather Lakes is situated out to the west of Brittany near Morlaix. This pretty and intimate venue is made up of two lakes, the main lake of 2 acres and the Pads Lake at one acre. Run by an English couple Trevor and Cara Tapp, it offers excellent fishing and a great food package in one of the prettiest areas of France. The facilities are as you would expect from a well established French carp fishery, including a 40 foot mobile home containing English toilets, hot shower and eating area.
The lakes were first stocked in December 2002 with a selection of mirrors & commons to over 40lb and a few koi and small catfish to give variety. Most of the fish introduced were 24lb+ and with over 30 x 30lb+ fish stocked, the average weight was set to be impressive. They have since added additional carp in both lakes making the current stock exceptionally good.

Forest Pool
Following the unfortunate fish loss problems that this venue suffered in the early part of 2004 after the previous winter's restocking, it is very pleasing to see that the lake has bounced right back, having produced several fish over 40lb during the course of the year. Mike Hayes was at this charming and beautiful little fishery at the end of August for a short notice weekend trip.
His comments were:... We all caught fish, best 37lb 7oz caught by James Hill and set a new personal best for him... The lake, as before, is absolutely beautiful and looks very carpy. I last fished Forest in 2002 and had my own personal best.. The facilities at Forest Pool are now first class.

Nigel Potter and Paul Heneke were at the venue from the 18 th September and both managed a few good fish. Using a Premier fish meal boilie fished over hemp, pellet and tiger nuts the lads landed fifteen carp, mostly doubles and twenties, but both finished their trip with on of the lake's larger residents. Paul had a 38lb 8oz mirror, while Nigel weighed in with a clonking mirror of 43lb hooked on tiger nuts in the top far corner of the lake near the outlet.

A La Carp
A superb venue in Normandy that has been producing the goods for visiting anglers during the summer. At five and a half acres, it has a solid reputation for producing big fish. The onsite house can accommodate anglers and non anglers in comfort. A new departure for 2005 is the opening of the venue to Drive and Survive trips.
A mid September trip for Kieren Morris from Essex and Daniel and Phil Pritchard from Cheshire saw them have an outstanding session and a great haul of fish. They totalled 12 carp over thirty pounds and six 40's to 49lb. All the fish came to the Carp Company 18mm Squid boilies.

The Lake is very picturesque and the swims are a good size and well maintained... the fish quality and size is excellent for the lake size. Food was very good and Martin a dedicated host... In summary, we had an excellent week at a first class venue with a very good host.
