Angling Lines News Report – March 2005
Well Spring is here at last and the final flurry of winter has given way to markedly warmer weather conditions with water temperatures increasing daily. As I write, hundreds of anglers are sorting through their gear, preparing their bait and heading down the motorways to France for their first forays of the year. I have to admit to not being a fan of the Winter time, preferring the long sultry days of summer by far. So it is with great anticipation that I personally greet this new season.
All our venues are progressing enormously and fish sizes and catches rates just get better every year. At least three of our venues produced 60lb plus fish last season and 2005 promises to be even better. We have several exciting new and as yet virgin waters for anglers to have a crack at, as well as a couple of new gems that I’m sure will live up to our expectations.
Laroussi
One such venue is Laroussi, set near the town of Le Mans in western France. The season really got off to a flying start at this venue, where the first fish of the season, a 48lb 4oz mirror, fell to our Angling Lines Special boilies.
On the 15 March at 10:15pm French carper Bruno Grosbois landed this superb mirror from the fifteen acre gravel pit , baiting his line for the first time with these new carp baits. His tactics consisted of a standard safety clip set up with 3oz pear lead, a size 6 Kamazan hook on a Mantis hooklink. Fishing on a sloping bottom of sand and gravel from the Point swim in about 12 feet of water, Bruno had baited with about 1 kilo of pellets and around 30 free offerings. The water temperature was at just six degrees. The fish represents a new personal best for the angler and is a fantastic start to the season for the venue that promises to throw up some spectacular catches this year.
It is worth noting that the Angling Lines Specials were particularly effective for Angling Lines Director David Keep during his session in October 2004, where he landed some 30 carp to 49lb plus.
The following week saw Steve Killgannon on the water and he and his friends had a superb week. Here his resumé:
" Biggest fish of the week was a half linear at 49lb 12oz. We had 2 other 40's at 40lb and 40lb 4 oz. In addition to this we had between us 7 other thirties to 36.10, a common of 24lb 8oz, a Grassie at 17lb 8oz and about 10 Sturgeon to 44lb 12oz, smallest Sturgeon was 32lb odd...majority upper 30's to low 40's.
All in all a brilliant week....Medhi is the nicest guy you could possibly hope to meet, very helpful but at the same time not intrusive at all...amazing English. I can honestly say that of all the lakes we have fished on your books....7 different venues in total...Laroussi is top of the pile in our books. So much thought has been put into the lake, the swims, facilities etc. I foresee Laroussi becoming your most sought after water after word spreads from returning anglers. We were so impressed we'd like to return this year....September or October time. Two of the lads with us were first timers in France, Medhi offered plenty help and guidance to them when asked and significantly increased their catch rate. Thanks for another excellent holiday! "

Trips to the River Ebro with Ron and Martyn
Ron Woodward (AKA Big Ron), with his new business partner, Marty of A&J Euro Carp Sessions, have expanded A&J into a much larger business, now offering fishing trips all over the world, with one of them being Cat and Carp fishing trips to the River Ebro in Spain (Caspe and Mequinenza). Here's Ron’s resumé of their recent field testing trip:
"We’ve just returned from a few days at Caspe (February 2005). This was a fact finding trip, sorting out all the arrangements for future trips, here’s an account of our trip and the facilities this area has to offer if you book one of our guided trips;
We travelled out to Spain for a 5 day trip, leaving a very cold and snow covered England behind us. On arrival at Reus airport we packed all our gear in to our hire car and set off on our journey to Caspe. Although we were in Spain, it seemed we had brought the weather with us, as it was very cold with snow everywhere you looked on the mountain ranges. But if you’re anything like me nothing stops you putting a bait in the water and I’ve had some very big fish in very cold conditions on my travels.
Over the next couple of days, even in the very, very cold conditions, we had some excellent fishing. I carried on my run of cats over 100lb on my first take... to 8 on the trot and Marty beat his personal best Cat twice, with a 97lb’er and his first ever ton + cat at 145.10. To say he was pleased would be an understatement! We also landed several carp, with the best going to Marty at 28.08. So as you can see we had a very good time for only three days fishing. "
If you too fancy some of this excellent sport let us know.. the accommodation is excellent and all your equipment is provided. Ron, who knows the Ebro like the back of his hand will guide you and ensure you have a big fish trip of a life time.

Genets
This extremely attractive venue has also been producing some nice fish to our own baits. Lake owner Larry Arnold got in amongst a few nice twenties in a couple of short session earlier in the month. Set in the Mayenne region of western France this well appointed six acre lake has an excellent stock of carp, consisting mainly of twenties to high thirties. Onsite facilities are very good with everything anglers could need. Food packages are also available.

Forest
We have just received news from the owner of this charming little water set in a forest that he has stocked a number of carp from the smaller lake behind Forest pool. The small lake was pumped out to allow de-silting work to be carried out and the owner was pleased to discover that the lake held a number of decent carp. In all some 25 fish were moved over, half of which were over the 10kg (22lb) mark. The rest of the fish in the batch ranged from 5kg to 8kg (11lb to 17lb).
