Angling Lines News Report – May 2005
Springtime here in France is traditionally the busiest time of the year, and this season is no exception. As I do the rounds visiting our lakes, shooting video clips for the Website, I’m fortunate to visit a wide cross section of venues. This gives me a wonderful insight into the way the various waters are fishing, and it’s not unusual to see a very definite trend. When one lake is fishing slowly it’s not unusual to learn that most carpers are struggling to catch. However, when I hear of an outstanding result on a given venue, it’s often the case that excellent catches are being enjoyed across the board.

This month has been no exception and the size and number of carp, cats and sturgeon caught on our venues has been quite staggering. Here’s a brief round up of some of the more notable catch reports.

Boux
Set in Central France this well established venue has been renowned for a number of seasons now for its large carp and impressive bags of fish. And so it proved during May when Richard Penney and his four friends fished Boux. Fishing from the 21-28th of May he had a haul of 35 fish, comprising of: 55lb mirror, 44lb common, 8 x 30s to 36lb. Including a 32lb grass carp, 12 x 20s to 29lb. The other 4 members of the party accounted for another 13 fish including a 42lb mirror and 4 x 30s to 35lb.

All fish came from boating my baits to the far margin from the dam wall. Baits were 18mm fished snowman style or wrapped in a large ball (golf ball size) of matching paste.

Richard commented on his trip:

”Boux is a great venue and well worth the drive. I had an amazing week. All the members of my party managed PB’s and went home happy. I would like to thank Angling Lines for arranging a great trip, and supplying a superb bait. The best bait by far was Angling Line Specials. At no time was the bait used on more than 3 of the 15 rods fished that week... yet it accounted for 25 of the 35 fish caught."

Lac du Val
This pretty and intimate lake run by David and Sammy Harding is an ideal location for a relaxing, tranquil and rural holiday with well appointed and comfortable bank side accommodation, plus you get the chance of some lovely carp to boot. The same week as above (21-28th May) saw Angling Lines regular Peter Battram and his wife Alison on the venue, in a party of five. The group managed a haul of 33 carp from doubles to 30’s. Their successful tactics included baiting heavily with Lac du Val carp pellets, boilies and particles

Comments from the party were:
Peter and Alison: ”A very quite and relaxing week for us all, we found the condition of all the fish where excellent, and had grown considerably from last year owing to Dave’s management of winter feeding programme. This is our second year here and Sammy & Dave’s hospitality along with the food was excellent.

Dale Butler: “ his was a superb fishing holiday of us at a great venue, very relaxing in every way, and we were very well looked after by Sammy & Dave I caught my PB common also my PB mirror so to say I was very happy was a understatement. My 9 year old son Mathew also had a great time and was tended to by Sammy & Dave and enjoyed himself very much indeed and we definitely come back again next year.

Neil. “If anybody is looking for a holiday in France I recommend Lac du Val to any unsure persons. The surroundings and the food made by Sammy were excellent, and Dave was always there with his advice if you were in doubt allowing me to top my PB twice in this one trip. I have been on many trips to France over the years but never so rewarding as this carp wise. Well done Dave & Sammy.

Criox Blanche
Following hot on the heels of a 66lb 4oz mirror reported last month we can now give you news of a truly remarkable brace of mirrors coming out of Croix Blanche in May. At 67.12 & 60.10 these 2 mirrors are the world record brace to one angler.

James Vincent, a BT computer specialist from Brandon, Suffolk, took the 2 mirrors on the 11th May. The 60.10 came at 8.10am & the 67.12 at 23.50pm.

James was on one of the A&J Eurocarp Sessions organised trips to Croix. Backed up with additional mirrors of 51.08, 44.07, 44.03, 35.15, 34.08, 33.14, 27.05, 27.00, 25.09, 25.10, 20.01, 37.01 common and catfish of 42.14 & 15.00 this really was a staggering haul.

A&J boss, Martyn Bocarisa commented; “ I’m absolutely delighted for James. In truth we knew something like this was on the cards... the head of massive fish in Croix Blanche is unbelievable. We’ve watched them grow on over the last 5 years so we know there’s more to come yet. But to take the World Record is unbelievable. A big thanks goes to everyone involved on the A&J trips from coach drivers to our top notch bailiffs... we’ve all got something to be truly proud of now ”

STOP PRESS: New Lake record: the complex record was broken again on 3rd June with our biggest fish going 68.00lb exactly to angler Andy Huckstep.

Brionnais
As far as luxury lake side accommodation goes, Brionnais is hard to beat. The extremely well appointed chalets are only yards from the water’s edge, making the venue a great family destination. May has also proven to be a particularly good month for big carp too.

Martin Donnelly was on the venue during the first week of May on his first ever carp fishing trip to France. He was in for a superb weeks carping which included a whopping brace of forties including a new personal best at 49lb 4oz mirror, he also totted up a tally of quality fish of 48lb, 36lb, 2x 28lb, 26lb 2x 22lb, 21lb, all mirrors

His tactics were fairly standard including, tigers, Richworth Tutti Fruitti's and G. B. Baits Plum. After catching for 3 days on just the Plum he changed all rods to it. Martin fished to far bank where fish were showing, using the boilies over spodded beds of pigeon mix hemp & bloodworm pellets. The 49lb carp come from a 2 foot deviation in depth 3 quarters of the way out.

Martin commented: “The owner John Guy was splendid with his lovely wife, they kept us amused with their humour and amazed us with their helpfulness. First class people, first class fishing. I'll be back! GREAT WEEKS FISHING WITH A NEW PB!”

Genets

This extremely pretty and intimate water has been producing a really good stamp of fish over the past month, with virtually every angler visiting the venue catching carp to over 30lb.

The week starting the 14th May saw Paul & Chris Dixon & Richard Grynich on the venue where they managed a catch of quality fish and a couple of new PB’s also. Paul who upped his PB to 35lb used flat 2 oz inline leads 8-10 inch hooks links and the Lake pellets.

Paul commented: “General running of venue was impressive. All 3 owners could not do enough to help & assist us. Extra bait being there when required at reasonable prices. Many thanks go to Heather Larry & Steve. Brill venue. Fish were all in lovely condition.”

As for Christopher Dixon... well he saw his PB jump from 9lb to a massive 34lb! He also bagged several other fish including mirrors of 27lb 7oz and 22lb, using boilies cast to the far margin

Christopher commented: “The food was excellent, so were the facilities & hospitality. ….Overall a great experience for fishing in France for the first time”.

Angling Lines Bait News
There’s been some great catches on our bait range. Here are a few highlights to whet your appetite.

Team Angling Lines finish runners-up in the World Carp Championships!

Team members Stewart McKenzie and John Tilbrook, both ex-pat Englishmen now living in Virginia USA, fished Angling Lines Specials over beds of corn to take 46 carp for a total weight of 842lb. They finished behind Tim Paisley & esteemed Editor, Mr Steve Briggs! A fantastic result – well done guys!

The Mangrove Syndicate, UK

The last couple of sessions on the difficult Mangrove in Shropshire have seen Angling Lines Bait Consultant Jim Kelly back in amongst the fish in the last two rotas. Feeding around 300 free offerings to a margin spot where he had seen fish activity he was able to land mirror’s of 27lb 12oz and 31lb 15oz.

Flushed with this success his second rota saw him return to the same Lightening tree swim, scene of his previous success, where he able to fish to the same spots and his previous trip. The result of this session was a 25lb 3oz mirror once again to the Angling Lines Special baits.

Over in France

A couple of very noteworthy catches on the Specials. Firstly Karl King A&J’s bailiff at the Croix Blanche has e-mailed us a report of his capture of a huge Mirror weighing in at 58lb 4oz. This fish is known on the Croix Blanche as ‘Single Scale’ and was tempted from a gravel patch in the weed at 50yrds on a bed of hemp and pellet with a single hook bait and a handful crushed boilies, with another handful of freebies.

Finally as mentioned briefly above Richard Penney enjoyed a marvellous session on the Domaine de Boux using the Angling Lines Specials which accounted for a 55lb mirror, a superb 44lb common, plus 8 x 30s to 36lb including a 32lb grass carp and 12 x 20s to 29lb. Quite an amazing week!. All fell for a snowman or a rather large ball of the matching paste.
