This lake is part of a complex of 6 lakes situated in the Champagne region, not far from the famous Lac du Der Chantecoq. The mileage from Calais is 266 miles - nearly all on motorways. The waters hold some of the most beautiful carp in France and offer a choice of carp fishing from fast & furious buzzer action through to serious specimen hunting. Pascale Briallart, the owner/manager, will be a regular visitor as she tours the site on a regular basis and is always willing to help out. The venue is fairly isolated and rural but shops and a supermarket can be found in Vitry-le-Françoise about 4 miles away. There are gravel workings taking place in the area & this can cause some noise - but it doesn't bother the carp!

"Wow, what a lake! Daunting at first but we soon relaxed as those lovely fully scaled Mirrors started rolling in over our nets. Awesome fish, they still fill my dreams to this day." Dave P.

50 acres + in size for a maximum of 12 anglers (18 swims), this lake offers you a real chance to 'get away from the crowd'. The average size of the fish is between 25 to 30lbs so the rewards are there for anyone willing to put in the effort.
Roughly 1 out of 10 fish is a 30lbs+. A few fabulous fully scaled mirrors of 40lbs+ have already been caught, any one of these being the catch of a lifetime. The average depth is 2 metres with a hard gravel bottom offering plenty of features. There are no significant snags but some weed in the summer. The fishing is really continental with boats & echo sounders required. All the swims are accessible by car.

There is a porta-cabin containing an English style toilet and shower on the complex. Further to the above, the owner has his farm very close by (2 minutes by car) where further facilities have been made available to the visiting anglers. This includes a communal kitchen area equipped with an electric double cooker, a fridge and a double sink. A large eating area is available with a table and two bench seats. There are additional toilet and showers facilities and a plentiful free supply of hot water.

The Great Lake is a gravel pit with features such as gravel bars and the odd patch of weed. No long range tackle is required as most of the fishing is done less than 50yards away from the bank. The fish have received little pressure as this lake has never been open to the public, however a bit of thought will take you a long way into ensuring that the session becomes productive.
Bait application is the key factor, apply on a little and often basis and you can be sure not to kill the swim. Generally little may be considered as 20-30 boilies per rod and no more than a pound of trout pellets. This amount may be renewed at every take or every 12 hours if nothing occurs. Do not expect blinding takes each time, sometimes a slight drop back or tightening of the line is sufficient to indicate a positive take so please ensure that your rod set up is as sensitive as possible.
Although generally speaking the fish are most active at night we have found that the biggest fish get caught during the day, so as to minimise disturbance on the water it is very useful for you to organise the group so as to refresh the baits at the same time. This saves continuous noise on the water during the day and increases you chances of a take.
