Join Henry Gilbey on the Fishing Adventure of a lifetime!
7 days Shark Fishing in Namibia, South Africa

Henry Gilbey: fishing nut, journalist, fishing photographer, consultant... and also the UK’s only dedicated sea fishing TV presenter. Far-out fishing is his primary obsession. Join Henry for some of the most extreme beach fishing this planet has to offer. You might have seen him literally bubbling over with infectious enthusiasm on Discovery; here’s the chance to fish with a genuinely fanatic fisherman for six days. If you can take the pace then come along!

How often has fighting a fish left you physically exhausted ?

If fishing presents a proper challenge, Henry’s up for it; none of this chasing big fish down by using a boat to get your line back or lying by the pool talking rubbish !! How about planting your feet in southern Africa’s warm sands and doing battle with a huge shark from the beach ? Namibia’s got the lot.

Henry will meet you at Heathrow and fly with you to Windhoek, Namibia; a short internal flight brings you to the town of Walvis Bay on the coast... your hotel... and of course the fishing. Incredibly friendly people, seriously safe, Namibia is very accessible Africa. It's like fishing on the edge of the world, but only a day’s travel away.

The cool waters of the Atlantic lap endless desert on the western shores of Namibia; these nutrient rich seas abound with roaming packs of hungry bronze whaler (copper) sharks that come right into the shoreline to feed. Your fishing guide is there to put you and your baits in the right spot. No experience of shore fishing is required, but a certain stamina to fight sharks that can weigh over 200 lbs from the shore is necessary. Nothing can prepare you for the outrageous and sustained power of fighting a fish that could well weigh more than you !! This fishing makes you feel alive, plain and simple.

But the sharks are simply one part of this rich coastline; the sharks’ smaller cousins (spotted gully and hound sharks) are great to “warm-up” on, but you will have to experience the power of a 40lb fish on surf tackle to believe it. Large edible species such as the kob and steenbras are more than viable target fish when the conditions are right.

This is very mobile fishing : the guides’ off-road vehicles are used for accessing likely looking spots up and down the coast. All fishing tackle is provided and it stays strapped to the trucks as you roam the beaches. The apprehension of waiting for a shark to hit your bait is unlike anything in fishing. But you have to get your head around the fact that you’re standing on a beach !!

£1390 per person + flights, based on a trip of six anglers.

This includes seven nights accommodation at a very comfortable, friendly, family-run hotel in Walvis Bay (breakfast included, one angler per room) and six full days guided fishing (all fishing transport, bait, tackle, lunch packs and cold drinks included). Dinner not included but excellent food out there is not expensive - some of the best meat in the world.

Dates : mid January 2006. This is summer time in southern Africa.

No malaria pills are required for this trip.
