Brief details of your catches: I had 7 carp , 2x PB - 27.5lb & 27.8lb.  All carp were in excellent condition.  My mate only caught 2 catfish but thought the holiday was great.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits:  The use of the bait boat.  Activ 8 boilies with dip.

General comments:  Lee & his family were great hosts.  The food was delicious and plenty.

Hello David,

I thought that you would like to see this, it was written at the side of the lake last week.

Hooked in France

It's not often that you get to write a letter at the side of the lake, but due to the wonders of the modern world I can!  As I write I should be fed up as I have just lost a big fish, but such is life.

The main reason for sitting here tapping this in to my mobile phone is just to say thank you to Lee and Tiff for giving us the chance to fish this great lake and also to say thanks for their great hospitality. We have not had caught a great amount of fish, but then they have been spawning most of the week (well that's going to be my excuse anyway).

It can be easy to doubt the amount and size of the fish that are in here but due to the aid of a rowing boat, I can say that all the fish that Lee has told me are in here are, I have never seen so many fish in one area at one time.

Anyway back to saying thanks, it's not often you meet people who you get along with straight away,  even more so if they have just lifted you for quite a few quid to fish their lake for a week, but Lee is like that, he is someone who you cant help but like, his watercraft is second to none and he has taught us things to look for that we will take back with us to the UK and this can only improve us as carp anglers.

With regard to the food package I would recommend it to everyone, not only is it great food but it is also very cost effective. During the week someone asked me if I would come back and with out a moments thought the answer would be yes, not only do I have some unfinished business with a big common it would also be a great week catching up with Lee and his family. If I had one compliant it would be that the beer in France is not quite as cheap as I thought, but this may have something to do with keeping the lake owner in the life that his is accustomed to. Again thanks Lee to you and your family and good luck for the future.

Brief details of your catches: Fish started spawning on Saturday when we arrived, but against all odds I caught a 25lb cat at 2pm . A good few fish were caught after that, biggest being a 32lb PB for one of the party, and a 26½lb cat PB for another of the party.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits:  Just try what you would normally use, anything can catch.

Were the facilities what you expected?  Better

General comments:  Had a great week, temperatures reached a staggering 104 deg F.

Hi Bridget and all @ Angling Lines,

Lee asked me to do as small article for you... so here it is:

Just got back from Montautiers (Hooked in France) and thought it was appropriate to put pen to paper and give this superb venue some much deserved credit.

It may not be the biggest water in France (but as they say size isn't everything!), and Montautiers certainly has a lot to offer. At just over 5 acres and bordered by mature oaks and traditional French populars - the setting is nothing short of stunning!!!

The facilities are excellent - the best I've been to so far. Both Lee and Tiffany who own the lake are real gems who go out of their way to make sure you're stay is first class all the way. With superb food and hospitality you would have to go a long way to beat montautiers.

Oh i nearly forgot and then there's the fishing which is what you could only describe as fantastic! There were 5 anglers in our party and one non angler. We all had pb's and caught our fair share of some of the stunning fish that reside in Montautiers. Infact we went that little bit further and managed to break the fishery record for most fish out in a week with 89 fish banked. Most of these were upper twenties with 8 going to mid /upper thirties and a few cats and sturgeon just for good measure and a bit of variety. Infact for one of our posse it was the first time that he had ever sat behind a set of rods fishing for carp and he managed no less that 33 fish himself - one of these was a stunning 30+ common. I think its safe to say that he definitely has the bug now!

So there you have it an absolute first class fishery run by first class people. Highly recomended.

Brief details of your catches: I caught 2 carp (16lb mirror & 11lb mirror). My son, Andy, caught a couple of catfish, 1 mirror & 1 sturgeon at 72lb

What did you find were the best tactics/baits:  We tried everything available; boilies, method, etc. Just a case of sit & wait patiently.

General comments: Hooked in France very good venue – owner very helpful. Venue very nice & looked natural & unspoilt. Fishing very slow due to spawning. Will be returning in the future.

Just a quick note to say thanks for all your help last week at Hooked in France. I guess nine fish out of eleven runs wasnt too bad after a slow start in perhaps one of the less fancied pegs at the time. Agreed this wasnt the best results by Hooked in France standards, but with a new personal best mirror carp under my belt and string of good upper doubles and twenties it was more than enough to wet my appetite for a return trip and a good indication of the what the venue has to offer.

Apologies for ommiting feedback on the catch report on our departure. I hope you will understand as we were all suffering from yet another night of broken sleep after catching another good twenty only then to be woken again and again by the sound of huge carp boshing about infront of our swim. So, for the record, please feel free add the following comments to my catch report for the week:

Big thank you to Lee and family who really went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. Excellent fishery in a truly stunning location that just has to be revisited.

Brief details of your catches: Seven carp between 11lb and 35lb & a single figure catfish.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits:  Stiff rigs & single baits (cranberry & caviar boilies, available onsite). We found it best to leave baits out for quite a long period.

Were the facilities what you expected?  Worse

Were you happy with them?  I was but my wife felt that they were more basic than advertised (i.e. not five star).

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?  Definitely if they were looking for a very good stamp of fish. Not if they were looking mainly for quantity.

Would you recommend our services to a friend?  Yes, unreservedly. The type of fishing advertised is very accurate.

General comments:  Beautiful lake & surroundings, friendly owners & very good quality fishing added up to a memorable trip.

Brief details of your catches: 22lb common, 14lb cat, 9lb cat; not a very good catch report but that’s carp fishing! Others did better. Although I didn’t catch many fish, I really enjoyed the venue and the hospitality that went with it. We will be back next September and thanks to Lee.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits:  Tried everything but kept to Lee’s.

Brief details of your catches: 3 people blanked. 5 carp to 25½lb, 1 cat at 25lb. It had just gone cold & the weather was awful all week, torrential almost non-stop rain. The only fault we could find was that the depths on some swims were grossly over-exaggerated and the fishing was poor.

General comments:  Enjoyed it despite the weather and fishing. Lee is a great host and a good laugh, nothing is too much trouble. Considering we had a couple of inexperienced anglers with us, he went out of his way to help.
