The Etang de la Malvoisine is situated in a sleepy village in the heart of the Mayenne region, an easy drive from the channel ferry ports of Le Havre and Caen. The owners are French and we’ve been very impressed with the professional way they are setting their lake up. We’re confident that it’ll be a first class venue and it’s often the anglers who get on a new water early who have some cracking catches... why not make it you?

" We had a total of 116 fish... largest mirror 30.08, largest common 28.10. Most fish caught during daylight hours in the margins. Hosts Pierre and Gigi couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming & nothing was too much trouble. They organised a BBQ one evening and delivered fresh baguettes to our bivvies daily! "

This well managed and mature 17 acre lake really is a delight to the eyes with long trailing weeping willows, far bank overhangs and sunken branches which give it a real “carpy” feel. Understandably given with the abundance of bankside trees the lake bed is mostly silt, but it’s quite firm making bait presentation simplicity itself.
Interestingly you fish from a central mushroom shaped peninsula of around two acres. This means that you are effectively fishing from the centre of the lake and back out towards the lake banks. This gives maximum casting space, great far margin features and also makes for a great social venue as the swims are closer than would be the case if you were bivvied around the circumference of the lake as normal.
In addition to the existing toilet cubicle there will also be a new toilet and shower block for 2009.

With a very good head of carp present, Malvoisine is the perfect choice for both the newcomer to French fishing and the seasoned angler who wants o good chance of daily action. The lake has recently been freshly stocked with a large head of fish in the 16 to 33lb bracket but there is the chance of larger resident fish being present as the lake hasn’t been emptied for 25 years and definitely contained a head of carp when the present owners took it over. The largest specimen landed to date weighed in at 36lb.

For anglers requiring extra facilities and a little extra comfort than a bivvy, Malvoisine has two brand new mobile homes sited at the edge of the lake within 100 yards of the fishing zone. Both are fitted with an excellent shower, toilet, bedrooms and a fully fitted kitchen with dining table. A proper little home from home.
