This lake is part of a complex of 6 lakes situated in the Champagne region, not far from the famous Lac du Der Chantecoq. The mileage from Calais is 266 miles - nearly all on motorways. The waters hold some of the most beautiful carp in France and offer a choice of carp fishing from fast & furious buzzer action through to serious specimen hunting. Pascale Briallart, the owner/manager, will be a regular visitor as she tours the site on a regular basis and is always willing to help out. The venue is fairly isolated and rural but shops and a supermarket can be found in Vitry-le-Françoise about 4 miles away. There are gravel workings taking place in the area & this can cause some noise - but it doesn't bother the carp!

This 8 acre lake is a former gravel pit with an average depth is 6 feet with alternating silt and gravel patches. There are 11 swims for a maximum of 7 anglers and most of the swims can be accessed by car. The site is very secure.
Catches of up to 160 fish a week have been recorded - with an exceptional number of linears and heavily-scaled mirrors. The lake has a horseshoe shape which ensures that every angler has his own part of the lake to himself whilst the others are never far away for a good social. It has a central island that can be reached by car during the summer and makes an ideal base to cover a good portion of the venue. Alternatively there are pegs to choose from on the perimeter banks.

There is a porta-cabin containing an English style toilet and shower for the exclusive use of Traque clients. Further to the above, the owner has his farm very close by (2 minutes by car) where further facilities have been made available to the visiting anglers. This includes a communal kitchen area equipped with an electric double cooker, a fridge and a double sink. A large eating area is available with a table and two bench seats. There are additional toilet and showers facilities and a plentiful free supply of hot water.

We are convinced that this water holds some of the most beautiful carp in France. Stocked fifteen years ago, the numbers of fish in this water is substantial. Linears, heavily-scaled, fully-scaled mirrors, commons and rare leathers. While the lake does contain fish to over 50 pounds the bulk of the stock is made up of twenties. The grass carp go to 30lb+. We would describe this lake as moderately difficult fishing with 15+ fish per week being fairly standard.

La Traque is a gravel pit with features such as gravel bars, overhanging tree branches and the odd patch of weed. No long range tackle is required as most of the fishing is done less than 50yards away from the bank. The fish have received little pressure, however a bit of thought will take you a long way into ensuring that the session becomes productive.
Bait application is the key factor - apply on a little and often basis and you can be sure not to kill the swim. Generally little may be considered as 20-30 boilies per rod and no more than a pound of trout pellets. This amount may be renewed at every take or every 12 hours if nothing occurs. Do not expect blinding takes each time, sometimes a slight drop back or tightening of the line is sufficient to indicate a positive take so please ensure that your rod set up is as sensitive as possible.
Although generally speaking the fish are most active at night we have found that the biggest fish get caught during the day, so to minimise disturbance on the water it is very useful for you to organise your group so as to refresh the baits at the same time. This saves continuous noise on the water during the day and increases you chances of a take.

From £216 per person, per week, including ferry crossing.
