Aug 2019
An Update

There was undoubtedly an unsettled start to the year for Boux.  For a while there was some concern (now happily resolved) as to whether the lease on the lake would be renewed for 2020 and despite the fact that the track along the forest path desperately needed some improvement, the investment required seemed to prove too much to get it done this year. So our apologies to anglers who have not had the easiest passage around the lake, especially as the forest bank with its shade and wildlife holds the most popular of the swims.

We can now say that discussions are already under way to ensure the track gets some remedial work done over the off season this winter. We will keep you updated.

As for the fishing, the carp are really doing well, but as with many other lakes this year so is the weed. Having just passed the end of a long hot spell the weed will now begin to die off. The good news is that it didn’t seemed to stop people catching, with mid July feedback showing catches like this:

28 fish landed during the week between 4 anglers including

7 x 30-40lb's

9 x 40-50lb's

3 x 50lb's - 51lb, 51lb 4 oz & 56lb 4oz

April & May as usual had some of the best weights coming out, for example:

22 fish: 1 x 68lb, 4 x 50's, 4 x 40's, 9 x 30's, 4 x 20's.

And this

22 fish: 1 x 65lb, 4 x 50's, 6 x 40's, 8 x 30's, 2 x 20's and 1 x double

Boux has a big reputation for great fishing and we will continue to do our best to keep it so.

Plans for the autumn include not only the path around the lake but having listened to the feedback some repair to the swims themselves on the forest bank. Finally there will be a few more small pike added to make sure the silverfish population is kept in order.

Tight lines everyone and thank you for your continued support.

Video Review

A brilliantly informative video from Peter Barnes, following his trip to Boux this April.

Oct 2018
An Update

Regarding the tree roots on the wooded bank - Chris intends to cut away some of these roots above the path to take away most of the trip hazards.

Some anglers have commented that the bank can become slippy when wet because it is a natural surface and suggested using an artificial surface such as gravel. We have taken this into consideration but the land owner of the domain Boux is sited on wants to keep it looking natural. There is always the choice of fishing from the dam wall too, which is a much more even surfaced walk from the parking area.

The lake may be netted in the winter to allow for the removal of smaller fish, however this will depend upon the water shortage in the area and so we cannot yet confirm. The good news is that the pike in the lake should continue to do their job and over the winter many of the small fry will have gone.

*Update* Due to lack of rainfall, the lake was unable to be drained and therefore a netting could not take place.

Weed Development

We have had patches of weed develop very quickly over the past week, I have included photos below, you can see two large patches particularly to the end of the wooded bank and corner of the lake. Chris estimates that the weed is covering maybe two acres of the fifteen acre lake.

We do not anticipate that this will affect the fishing, over the coming weeks we have smaller groups of up to 4 on the lake so it should be manageable but we obviously want to keep you updated.

If anything more develops we will update this section.

May 2017
An Update

The fishing was difficult from 15 to 22 April, only 6 fish (2 fishermen) taken for the biggest 23kg (50lb) all taken to the pink pop up.

For the week after (2 fishermen) the same for 7 fish and the biggest 23.6 kg (52lb) to boilies and especially to the tigernuts. For this week it is much better - 15 fish for the bigger 25.5kg, using tigernuts and boilie.

The question is that the carp have not yet spawned, but it will not be long. But I keep you informed at the time of the spawning.

A New Lake Record

Congratulations to Stephen Marks, who now holds the lake record at Boux with this 62lb mirror.

'I have just finished my week at boux which was last week and wanted to contact you guys with some great news. Although the first 3 days we had had nothing but spawning and a very quiet lake. Come the Friday I was finally into my first and only fish but to my amazement was greeted with a huge head and mouth of a 62lb mirror.

I don't recall seeing one at this size before and think it could be a record, after looking back on the sites photos I think the same fish was caught last June at 58lb.'
