Caught 22 carp up to 31lb, but could see much larger fish sunbathing on our last day. Small stockies between 10-15lb need some growth yet. We had plenty of runs spread through the week, both day and night from different baited areas.

General comments:
This was a new lake for us and it was certainly intriguing. Set in the depths of a forest, it’s truly remote and in the middle of nature, with wild boar and magnificent stags and deer for company.

The lake has been newly stocked to augment the inherent population, and still needs some time to fully settle in. Fish like to run for the weed but as light surface weed, not an issue to navigate. Carp fight hard at the bank so quite a challenge to get them into the net. Some Poisson Chat but not an issue if you shrink wrap the boilies.

Don’t feed the boar or leave out bait / food, but as the car can be beside the swim not an issue. Stag mating calls during the night can echo down the lake giving the impression of fishing in Jurassic park :)

Would consider to return next year assuming promised facilities at the lake are in place. Very interesting week.

x2 carp over the week. 29lb 7oz and 22lb 9oz. Carp just not active. Lake has poisson chat present in an abundance.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
Had to wrap baits as the poisson chat would decimate the bait within 30 minutes of it being in the lake.

Were the facilities what you expected?
The lodge has good facilities and everything you'd expect. The photos on the site don't really show it for what it is.
Were you happy with them?
Great base for the family making a comfortable environment.

If additional items stated in "General comments" were implemented then I would recommend to friends.

Normally I would have no issue with a recommendation for Angling lines, but I feel that letting us know 2 days before our departure in regards to the poisson chat is unacceptable. Spoiled the trip to be honest.

General comments:
This needs to be broken down for various reasons:

Owner - Guallaume came across as welcoming on arrival. Everything that I hired was waiting for us. Not much information was gained on the lake apart from where the previous guests had caught their carp. We were unfortunate to get a puncture going over the bridge from the lodge to swim No2 due to the poor condition of the roadway. This was dealt with by Guilluame and his father which they covered through their insurance. A massive thank you for this.

Lake - Wonderful surroundings to relax in. Great wildlife whether it be watching the kingfishers, deer or the hogs. Unfortunately we were plagued by a hog throughout the stay. Not good for families with really young children.
The pegs need to be sorted out, especially pegs 3 & 4. Peg 3 is situated really high on the bank and not suitable to fish from and peg 4 has no easy access for a vehicle. The pegs need to be fenced in my opinion as you couldn't leave any of you gear out overnight due to the hogs and for your SAFETY if you are fishing overnight. Not ideal at present if you are drive and survive especially if you are taking children!!

Surrounding Area - The venue is situated within a vast estate. I would strongly recommend hiring and exploring. The family were easily cycling 8-10 miles a day and taking different routes coming across different lakes, watching the stags on the open fields and the hogs with their piglets. Certainly a bonus away from the fishing.

Disappointment - We were only informed 2 days before travelling that the poisson chat were present in the lake. As we booked the lodge, this didn't give us any option whereas if you booked drive and survive I think you could have an option to change venue possibly. For the amount present in the lake, I would say they have been present for a long time and this information should be readily available when choosing your family holiday as these holidays don't come particularly cheap. I didn't book this trip to catch poisson chat!!

In all, when the poisson chat have been removed this venue will be great. The owner said he is stocking additional carp next year which would be a welcome addition. At only 200 fish in the expanse of water it was always going to be a challenge.

*Angling Lines note* We really appreciate your feedback and can only extend our sincere apologies for the lack of notice regarding poisson chat. We fully understand that anglers need to be aware of matters such as this so you can come prepared and we emailed all upcoming customers as soon as we were notified by the owner. However, we and the owner accept that we should have seen this issue sooner. This is the lake’s first summer open for fishing and they certainly were not present in any numbers to our knowledge at the first half of the season. However, of course it is the warmer months where they become more prevalent and the conditions this year have been perfect all over France – many of our venues are seeing the same issue. Regarding swim 3, it is built far enough back to be fishable during high water levels in the spring. We do accept that in the height of summer your rod pod would need to be sited a couple of meters further down the slope to the waters edge.

General comments:
The lake had no mixed general fish as it said it had on the website. Also it had been inundated with small catfish which were very annoying and destroyed all the bait. The bailiff will remove the catfish for next year.

*Angling Lines note* Thank you for your feedback. We have checked the wording on the website with the owner Guillaume and to our knowledge it is correct. There are some grass carp, zander, a handful of pike and a small amount of roach. We fully agree the poisson chat (small catfish) have been active with the hot weather and Guillaume intends to rectify this over the winter. In the mean time we have contacted future anglers to advise bringing the usual precautions - mesh for bait etc :-)
He loves boilies

Details of your catches:
During the week that we were there, we had to deal with difficult weather conditions with temperatures up to 37 degrees, but still managed to catch 28 carp between 2 anglers. The heaviest that was caught weighed just under 33lb. The weight of the fish that we caught was not very high, but I am happy with any fish that I can catch, especially if they’re in top health and have pristine mouths.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
At the first meters in the water you suffer from algae which is indeed a factor that can make fishing more difficult. However, this didn’t bother me at all.

General comments:
It is a beautiful lake of about 7 hectares. If you drive over the gravel path, you will immediately see the beautiful log cabin. The log cabin is on stilts, so that the wild beasts that walk around on the domain can’t get on the terrace. When you enter the log cabin it looks very neat and clean. In the log cabin are all necessary facilities to make your stay VERY enjoyable.

The peg that belongs to the cottage is a 2 person site where you’re surrounded by nature, the site itself is very flat so it’s ideal for your tent and bedchair to set up nicely. The environment is purely natural, nothing has changed here by human. From the site you have a beautiful view over a part of the water.

The area is beautiful to see and to stay in, you will completely relax. When the evening falls you can see several deer, wild boar and fox passing on the lawn next to the log cabin, this makes the stay all the more beautiful to experience this during your fishing holiday.

In other words Etang du Ris is definitely worth it to be fished, to be able to enjoy all that nature has to offer there and this with my woman and child. Especially if you are staying in the log cabin, just like we did.

Details of your catches:
I caught eight fish in total, best fish were a 33 and a 36 Mirrors, I fished the lake alone and so could fan my rods out across the lake.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
I fished regular hooklinks with snowman and was happy with my catches .

Were the facilities what you expected?
No they were not they greatly exceeded my expectations. The usual is to find a small cabin with minimal but adequate facilities, here on this lake they were situated in a large old brick building with all the fridge and freezer storage you could wish for. The showers were amazing, large shower area, massive shower head and very hot water. Toilets were amazing too. Wi Fi in the building and a landline phone available.
Were you happy with them?
Very very happy.

General comments:
Stunning lake, with mature trees all around where the trees don't hang over the water as grass and reeds line the banks all around. You are treated to spectacular views and you just sit there taking that in and every now and again deer can be seen walking through gaps in the trees and do indeed come to the water to drink. The whole venue is set in an old castle estate and over the years the venue has changed as New owners arrive. It was in fact a Zoo at one time with a wide range of exotic animals. The perimeter fence is still in use so all the wildlife Deer and Wild boar are contained within the massive grounds. Bit of a trek down but well worth it. At evening I WATCHED WILD BOAR with many young piglets walk past the back of my swim moving from their day area to night area, at night you hear them rooting around. I felt safe all the time.
