We have a fantastic group of lakes on our website, which are a credit to the people that run them. Ian, together with wife Jacquie, owns Golden Oak. We asked him a few questions…
When did you discover carp fishing and how did you come to be here at Golden Oak?
From a young age, I have been passionate about carp fishing, always fished in the UK but then around 6 years ago took a fishing trip to France! I began to visit France more and more as loved the potential of catching a fish of a lifetime and really enjoyed the French way of life! After two years looking for an ideal lake and property to purchase, we moved lock stock and barrel to the Dordogne after finding our dream property at Golden Oak.
What’s the best and worst part of being the owner?
BEST – simply seeing the joy and excitement of seeing the fishermen catching their PB’s. The noise of children and adults enjoying themselves outside the gite and of course, getting repeat bookings and amazing feedback.
WORST – Nothing.
What would you say is the best feature of your lake?
In our opinion, having the gite so close to the lake, sitting on patio looking over lake in the most peaceful and tranquil setting. Noise pollution consists only of wildlife, the odd tractor in the distance and of course bite alarms buzzing!
When people arrive is there anything they are surprised by?
Everyone is surprised how luxurious the gite is. We provide as much as possible for the whole family from fully equipped kitchen to toys and games, dvds and playstation. Even a rainy day here is entertaining. All our guests cannot believe the night skies, we are on the Milky Way and having no light pollution, means night views are outstanding.
What is the most common mistake you see anglers make at Golden Oak?
Not listening to advice – obviously we are here week in, week out, and fish the lake as much as we can so we know the tactics, bait and hot spots that produce a good catch! We see week on week how and where the fish are being caught.
Finally, what is the one most important piece of advice you’d give to anglers visiting your lake soon?
ENJOY – We are here to help you have an amazing time which includes catching your PB’s, so we will do everything in our power to make this happen – please do not hesitate to ask us before you arrive, as well as when you are here, for any advice, needs etc. Oh, and make sure a change of clothes, as PB’s are celebrated by a dunk in the pool or bucket of water at the lakeside!
Golden Oak is situated in the heart of rural France. It’s a perfect location for families and couples as well as groups of up to 4 anglers. The private lake with carp to over 60lb and the lakeside accommodation provide the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday.
