{"id":1988,"date":"2010-02-01T15:52:56","date_gmt":"2010-02-01T14:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/lake-management-using-lime\/"},"modified":"2016-11-17T10:41:20","modified_gmt":"2016-11-17T09:41:20","slug":"carp-lake-management-using-lime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/carp-lake-management-using-lime\/","title":{"rendered":"Carp Lake Management &#8211; Using Lime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>David writes; \u00a0I had this Email sent to me by a French lake owner today&#8230; I thought I&#8217;d pass it on so other lake owners could either benefit or comment;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I recently had a meeting with a recognised fishery expert and we had a very interesting conversation about the use of lime.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-24364 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/lake2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"how to look after a carp lake\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/lake2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/lake2-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/lake2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>It is already widely known that lime kills undesirable water-borne creatures and I&#8217;ve been adding lime each winter to achieve this. \u00a0 However, having fully discussed this with the vet, it is more specific that just spreading dry (granulated) lime over the surface of a lake.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been told that it&#8217;s necessary to make up a &#8220;lime milk&#8221;. \u00a0 This is done by mixing the granulated lime 1 part to 3 parts water. \u00a0 This makes a &#8220;lime milk&#8221; which should then be added to the lake (by means of some type of Heath Robinson system &#8211; pump etc) and spread throughout. \u00a0 This turns the water a milky colour, which will disperse. \u00a0The timing is also important &#8211; this should be done in February (the guy said before March) but I&#8217;m assuming that the hatching of creatures is dependant on whether one has a warm or cold spring.<\/p>\n<p>The difference between just adding the dry lime and the milk solution is that the dry lime simply drops to the bottom and only kills the larvae there, whereas the milk solution also kills the suspended larvae that are waiting to hatch.
