an exchange of ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>Another thought provoking rig piece from Chas, the owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/search\/venues\" class=\"kblinker\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"More about Vaux &raquo;\">Vaux<\/a>;\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_2678\" style=\"width: 105px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/carp-rigs-an-exchange-of-ideas\/dh1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2678\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2678\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2678\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/dh1-95x150.jpg\" width=\"95\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/dh1-95x150.jpg 95w, https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/dh1-190x300.jpg 190w, https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/dh1.jpg 196w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 95px) 100vw, 95px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2678\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Double hook shown to me by the European angler<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A European gentleman turned up at <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/Vaux\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vaux<\/a><\/span> one day last year when I was fishing.\u00a0 His first question was could he fish the lake, to which my reply was no.\u00a0 His second question was how big are the fish, because he was an angler who had travelled around to many European lakes where he had caught some large fish.\u00a0 We chatted generally on fishing topics whilst I continued to tie a stiff boom rig.\u00a0 This caught his eye and so I went on to show him half a dozen rigs along with baiting and tactics which, as a UK angler, I use.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He then wanted to share his most popular rig with me.\u00a0 His hook length set-up does not incorporate a hair.\u00a0 Instead his preference is to use soft hook baits, such as potatoes, beans and soft paste boilies which he makes himself.\u00a0 He presents his baits by drilling a hole through the given bait and pulling the hook into the bait so it is embedded in it.\u00a0 This is fished on a free running set-up so that, as he explained to me, the fish is allowed to take the bait and run, allowing sufficient time on the take for it to crush the soft boilie from the hook and so self-hook itself.\u00a0 If he is using potatoes or beans he would strike into the carp.\u00a0 He only uses small leads so the weight of it is light enough just to set the hook.\u00a0 He would then wind down and strike into the fish.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2682 alignright\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2010\/02\/r21-103x300.jpg\" width=\"103\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After I had shown him my normal set-up incorporating the stiff boom plus soft braid hook length and size 6 or 7 hook, he asked if he could tie and show me his version of a stiff boom rig with the hook he normally uses for carp fishing.\u00a0 Taking materials which I had in front of me, he went off and returned with the boom rig just as I would tie it, but with a double hook set-up.\u00a0 I was shocked, to say the least.\u00a0 He confirmed that this was normal practice for him and I asked whether the hooks were sold as predator or carp hooks.\u00a0 He replied that they are not specified and are sold for either&#8230; you make your own choice.\u00a0 He explained that he rarely loses a fish and never has a hook hold move in the mouth of any fish, large or small and so there is no mouth damage.\u00a0 Comparing the hooks we use, both barbed and barbless, with his double hook, his parting comment was that he believed our hooks would lead to mouth damage and that their double hooks are more humane.<\/p>\n<p>Makes you think doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p>Chas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anglinglines.com\/Vaux\/\" target=\"_blank\">Etang de Vaux<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Another thought provoking rig piece from Chas, the owner of Vaux;\u00a0 &nbsp;
