A Golden LakeAug 2010 by Ian, Nicola, David and Cristina Stone
In August of this year, I took my family of four to Golden Oak lake. We found the lake to be a well established 5 acre stream fed lake with depths ranging from 18 inches to 3ft at the shallow end and 4ft to 13ft at the dam end which gave us a good varying depth to fish in.
As this was a family holiday my son and I only fished in the late evening, night and early mornings. This produced 30+ fish for us during the course of the 7 nights. The biggest being a 38lb 2oz mirror carp cought by my son. We had a few small commons with the majority of fish being between 15lb to 25lb. The lake also contains perch, roach and pike to 26lb. We used source boilies, bottom baits and pop-ups.

The accommodation is a 3 bedroom gite, all bedrooms have en-suite and comfortably sleeps 7 people and is approx 50 metres from the lake. One of the bedrooms has on outstanding view looking out over the lake. There is a 5ft deep plunge pool in the garden of the gite also looking out over the lake. The gite is furnished to a very high standard and has a fully fitted kitchen with oven, fridge and microwave. The lounge area has comfortable sofas with Sat. TV and DVD player.

We enjoyed cycle rides along the beautiful country side and often cycled into the village along the chemins to get frosh bread and pastries. There is also a large supermarket about 10 mins drive away. Bikes can be hired on site (but we did take our own). Also at the lake is a small tackle station providing terminal tackle, baiting needles etc. Boilies and particle baits are on sale and are prepared on request by the owners Dick and Joe who are an extremely helpful and friendly couple who made us feel very at home and nothing was too much trouble.

This venue is ideally suited to groups of anglers wanting to fish 24,7 as Joe will provide a food package (and if the fruit crumble she made us is anything to go by the food will be superb) or, as we did a family holiday in a beautiful tranquil part of France with many walks and cycle paths and places of interest to visit, to which Dick and Joe would be happy to provide directions to. We did cater for ourselves and enjoyed many BBQ's on the terrace overlooking the lake. What more could you ask for?

We had an absolutely fantastic time although we didn't catch some of the lakes resident monsters which go to over 40lb maybe even 50lb we can thoroughly recommend this venue for the fishing, the breath taking views and tranquil countryside setting.
