We have a fantastic group of lakes on our website, which are a credit to the people that run them. We asked Bruno, owner of Deux Iles, a few questions.
When did you discover carp fishing and how did you come to be here at Deux Iles?
As a dedicated carp angler from a very young age, I started to fish for small fish first with my father. We had the chance to have a family lake where I spent my childhood. Then, one of my parent’s friends offered me all his carp gear when I was ten years old. It quickly developed into a true passion. I decided to make it my career four years ago. I transformed our family lake into Deux Iles.
What’s the best and worst part of being the owner?
The best part is to meet a lot of passionate anglers with who we can share together advices and experiences. The most important and rewarding aspect is when the clients come back from one year to the next. Some of them become friends and it’s always a pleasure to see them back.
The worst part is the risk. Even if you are doing your best (to make everything clean and ready), on every lake sometimes the carp are not feeding and there is nothing you can do to avoid it. That’s the only thing you cannot control when you own a fishery. The worst thing is to come to see the anglers and find that they are not catching.
What would you say is the best feature of Deux Iles?
According to me, the best feature of my lake are the cabins on the islands. Anglers really appreciate to have all the facilities they need on the swim (single beds, fridge, table, electric plug, electricity, WIFI). Indeed they don’t need to bring bedchairs or other cumbersome thing that save some room in the car.
When people arrive is there anything they are surprised by?
At first, anglers are always surprised when they discover the size of the lake as it seems bigger than on the pictures. They also really like the quality and the cleanliness of the facilities (cabins included).
What is the most common mistake you see anglers make at your lake?
Some of the anglers have the idea that if you put a lot of baits at the start and wait on it the fish will come easily. Which doesn’t work very well at Deux Iles. It’s better to put small amount of bait on each spot and see what happens. Then, put more baits as soon as you start catching fish.
Finally, what is the one most important piece of advice you’d give to anglers visiting your lake soon?
The lake has been open now for four years. Anglers are coming pretty much every week between March and November so it’s a lot of pressure on the lake during this period. Therefore, in addition to what I said in the previous question, I would advise anglers to take the time to choose the best spots the first day and spread their rods as much as they can. Anglers are here for a full week, so no rush, giving some rest to your swim during the week may be a good tactic!
