Golden Carp Lake Facilities
THE ANGLER'S LODGE FACILITIES
Set at the heart of the site, central to our three double swims, the communal lodge is the social hub of Golden Carp Lake and close enough to all three double swims to socialise whilst still having your rods out.
Cooking in the summer kitchen with gas hotplate, charcoal BBQ, twin gas hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and American fridge freezer (along with all of the essential cookware, crockery and cutlery), becomes a social event, whilst chatting and sharing a drink with friends and fellow anglers.
Undercover seating for up to eight people, along with the ceiling fans and splash pool (open second week of June, weather permitting, until 1st November), mean that you can be comfortable whatever the weather.
IPTV on the 55” TV means that you have access to any sporting event or programme, while being a short dash from your rods when you get a bite!
The extended awning area offers further seating around the BBQ, as well as a dartboard, for a bit of additional entertainment.
Numerous plug sockets and a battery-charging station ensure all of your bankside technology is fully charged.
WIFI access is available across the whole site including swims.
At the rear of the lodge is the wheelchair-accessible wet room and toilet, as well as the separate ladies toilet with hand basin.
Please note; these facilities (grill, BBQ etc) should be left as you find them. Cleaning materials are provided.
THE CABIN ACCOMMODATION
The cabin accommodation and swim is an ideal spot for couples, families, or small groups.
The cabin is a rustic timber-built, two bedroomed accommodation on the "almost island", comfortably distanced from the double swims further down the lake.
The cabin sleeps up to four people with two anglers fishing, but can also cater for a maximum of six people if the two anglers are in bivvies.
Situated approximately 7 meters from the water’s edge and its two single swims, as well as the wooden pontoon (perfect for sunbathing), the cabin offers access to an area of the lake inaccessible from the other swims.
Because of the cabins proximity to the water, it is no problem to fish at night whilst sleeping in the cabin.
When adding the cabin accommodation to your booking online, please make sure to select swim 1, as this is the swim that also comes with the cabin - it means you have enough water to either fish directly outside the accommodation or from the platform at swim 1, as you wish.
INSIDE THE CABIN
The cabin has two bedrooms: one double and the other with two single beds, along with a fully equipped lounge and kitchen area and a modern refurbished shower room and toilet.
The kitchen is equipped with a double gas-hob, combination microwave, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, fridge freezer, as well as all of the relevant cookware, glassware, cutlery and crockery.
The lounge area has a table and seating area, widescreen TV (with integrated DVD player), IPTV, and games console upon request. As with the rest of the site, the cabin area has full WIFI access.
Fans are provided during the summer months and both the lounge and bedrooms are equipped with radiators when the weather turns colder.
Please note; the beds come with mattress protector, fitted sheet and pillows with pillow cases on. A hand towel, bath mat and two tea towels are also provided. Please bring your own duvets if required, duvet covers and additional shower & pool towels. With prior arrangement, additional linen and towels are available at extra cost from the owner.
OUTSIDE THE CABIN
Outdoors there is an undercover terrace, comfortably seating six, with a stunning view across the lake and surrounding woodland, perfect for a lunchtime or evening drink and a bit of socialising.
It has its own private splash pool (open second week of June, weather permitting, until 1st November), a charcoal BBQ and two sun loungers.
The cabin has private parking for two vehicles.
The anglers lodge facilities and cabin accommodation are connected to mains water, making the water safe to drink.
LOCAL AMENITIES AND ATTRACTIONS
The village of Mareuil-en-Perigord is roughly five minutes from the lake, and has two supermarkets, a petrol station, butchers, several bakeries, tobacconists and a pharmacy.
It also has three restaurants and a few bars, including an English-style pub, which does fish and chips, curries, etc. for takeaway.
It also has a market on Wednesday mornings.
Brantome, “The Venice of the Dordogne”, is a fifteen-minute drive from the lake and is definitely worth a visit.
There are several places of interest, including the Abbey and caves, as well as loads of restaurants (including two Michelin-star-rated establishments), bars and boutique shops. Riverboat trips and canoeing are also on offer along the river Dronne, which passes through the centre of the town.
It has markets on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
Slightly further afield are the cities of Perigueux and Angouleme, offering everything you would expect; restaurants and bars, as well as numerous family activities including go karting, paintballing, Accrobranche (a treetop assault course with rope bridges, zip lines, and swings), etc.
The prehistoric cave network at Lascaux (with over 600 cave paintings) and the fresh water “Aquarium Périgord Noir” are within an hour and a half’s drive from the lake, and are a great family day out.
