Details of your catches:

7 fish caught this week in november which in my eyes is a great haul; 38lb mirror, 39lb mirror 41lb common, 44lb mirror, 45lb mirror, 48lb mirror 54lb mirror

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

First night single hook baits as not knowing what guys the week before had put in, which resulted in the first mirror. Fish seem to be very active showing in the snags and crashing for fun which in the end resulted in a kilo over each rod and rewarded us with quick takes within 30mins of baiting. We also found there was a repeated feeding window like clock work every day and on two occasions produced a double take. Boillies over particles.

Details of your catches:

Swim 3. 13 x Carp (1x50, 4x40, 7x30 & 1x20): 51lb 49lb mirror x 2 49lb 4oz common 46lb mirror 37lb 8oz mirror 37lb 4oz mirror 35lb mirror 34lb 8oz mirror 33lb mirror 32lb mirror 31lb mirror 27lb mirror

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Bottom baits. Baiting little and often either from other bank or by catapult. No bait boat used all week. Fishing tight to far back which about 55 yards, but also caught in middle of the lake.

Were the facilities what you expected?

More than expected. Facilities are very clean and tidy and well equipped for your fishing needs. It is after all fishing not camping.

Were you happy with them?

Absolutely!! And not too far from the swims to walk. Furthest swim is only a two minute walk. Plenty of fridge and freezer space for bait and food. Very hot water for washing up. Good shower and toilet facilities.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Definitely. Old Oaks has a massive head of big fish for its size with a vast amount being 40 plus, considering the lake is 5 acres there is approx 120 large carp in residence and in theory that works out at 24 big fish per acre. It is by no means a runs water and fish are unpredictable as they are highly pressured and fished for 24/7 most of the year - you need to work at it!! You need to be prepared to change how you fish and use different tactics where needed.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes. Bridget and Linda are more than helpful and make it very easy to book a holiday to meet your requirements.

General Comments:

Old Oaks is very well run by Medhi. He has kept the natural look of the lake and is always there if you need him - just a phone call or text away!! A big thank to Medhi's wife for keeping the facilities clean and tidy. All that is asked is that you clear your rubbish at the end of your weeks fishing and ensure the gate is locked. We found it embarrassing to arrive at the lake, albeit earlier than was expected, to find that the previous weeks anglers had left their rubbish by the picnic area and a full bait bucket left in swim. The venue was left unlocked overnight as the party left a day early and did not let Medhi know. Within a short space of time Medhi had sorted this out and we had a fab's weeks fishing. THANK YOU! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Snowman\rigs & pop ups tight to snags

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes & no, this lake needs a proper eating & cooking area under cover as you are not allowed to cook in the cabin and there is no room to eat in the cabin, seating is wooden and always wet. If it was raining you would be cooking and eating in your bivvy. Great shower, fridge, freezer, toilet & washing up facilities. Also recommend a bike to taken.

Were you happy with them?

Yes\no the lake needs updating should have electric at all swims & the swims could do with a bit of TLC.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

50\50

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes all day long, great service from start to finish, always been the same from the day one we started using them.

General Comments:

This lake has great potential, all it needs is a bit of TLC. The stocking of fish needs to be double at least with only 120 fish in total, mostly being at one end of the lake or the other, there are some amazing fish to be caught if there were 2 anglers and were able to move swims, with 4 or 5 anglers you would find it all very hard to catch with only one person to be able move swims. Medhi & his wife are very nice people and leave you to get on with the fishing but there 24\7 if you need any thing. This is only a group feedback on what we would recommend.

General Comments:

We dropped very lucky this week as the lake had fished poorly the week before. The weather was perfect for the time of year and the fish responded text book style for once. We have been to old oaks before so knew a lot about the place and as usual we stayed away from fishing into the snags. It's not the easiest venue but if you keep things simple and don't change things about too much if you are not catching, the fish will respond.
