Details of your catches:
9 carp landed & 1 lost 42.5, 42, 41, 39, 37, 35, 34, 24, 22.
Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
A visual addition to the bait such as a fake corn seemed to work initially. If the carp move onto a natural food source then fake maggots or similar worked once when nothing else did. Carp takes were often finicky and so we slackened the drags right off to encorage the carp to take line.
Were the facilities what you expected?
Yes, the facilities were detailed on the Angling lines website and were as described.
Were you happy with them?
Yes, we knew what to expect and the facilities met that requirement.
Would you recommend the venue to a friend?
If you want to catch loads of carp then no, if you want to target big fish then possibly yes but as there is so much natural food in the lake you need to pick the right week or else you will be struggling.
Would you recommend the services to a friend?
Yes, for a hassle free Fishing trip to France.
General Comments:
We caught 5 fish within the first 30 hours and things were looking good. Then we had a couple of days of cold weather and the lake switched off. When the weather improved the carp seemed to have totally lost interest in the same bait tactics which had previously proved so successful. The carp are often very subtle and bites indicate more like a small bream than a carp as (we assume) they try to shake the hook rather than run.

Details of your catches:
Ian had a lovely 39lber the first night and we all thought we were in for a great week. Sadly with the heavy rain they had just had and we had for the 1st couple of days with 6" of cold water in the lake this switched the fish off. At the end of the week after a couple of days sunshine Ian then had a 40lber on Friday morning as we were packing up.
Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
I had a few short pick ups from the carp which was dropped after 3 or 4 bleeps. Mark the owners son said the carp were very sensitive to the hooks so we needed to have bait tight to the hook with heavier weights to make sure of a good connection. I started in swim 3 with one rod in the margin, the next rod half way to the island and the third rod as close to the island as i could get. In the deeper water it is quite silty so i used snowman set up with 10mm boilie and pop up or fake corn. Cast out with pva bags a few holes so the weight goes down first followed by melting pva bag spreading boilies and the hook bait following to settle on top. I also catapulted a few extra baits to spread over the area. After a couple of days and not being very convinced this was going to work for me i moved to swim 6 where i had found a gravel bar across the swim at a slight angle. I changed end tackle to match the sandy gravel bottom using pva netting with crushed 10mm and 15mm boilies, single hook bait topped with fake corn. The gravel bar was in easy reach with an under arm chuck on the left side of the swim and 4 to 5 rod lengths out to the right side. All were then catapulted over with maze as this is a favourite of the fish as well. I felt a lot more confident with set up and topped up with a smattering of boilies and maze over the next couple of days.
Were the facilities what you expected?
The cabin with the facilities was great with everything you could need. Excellent hot shower with brush and squeege to mop up any spills afterwards. The generator was not needed for the shower only if you wanted to charge batteries etc.
Were you happy with them?
Yes, we also used the caravan to wash pots etc which made it easier that at bivvy side. Debbie and John have just got a mobile home to replace the caravan so photo's of this will be on the site soon.
Would you recommend the venue to a friend?
Yes - for any experienced angler looking for good sized fish.
Would you recommend the services to a friend?
Yes - but i would do :-)
General Comments:
We changed our ferry from Ports/Caen to Ports/ St. Malo it was an easy run this way only just over 3 hours to the lake with no toll charges. I really enjoyed fishing this excellent lake with plenty of space for bivvies around the swims, finding my way around the lake bed and trying to out smart the fish but the amount of cold water, full moon, natural lake food caught me out this time. I will be back to have another go at this lovely fishing venue. Many thanks to John, Debbie and Mark who met us at the lake and were most helpful.
