various tactics. single baits, scatterings of boilies, pva mesh bags, bait boat dropping 1-1.5kg of bait at one single time over same spot throughout the week. hemp, maize, particle mix, halibut pellet, robin red pellet, various types of boilies used as free offerings. snowman rig producing majority of fish.

Were the facilities what you expected?

for drive and survive kitchen and shower facilities were more than enough. decent shower and toilet for when needed in one cabin and 3 fridges and big chest freezer for bait, food and drink for the week in other cabin. kitchen also had kettle, microwave and 2 hobs but wasnt used as cooking and bbq was done bankside. drinking water left in large containers aswell for use when needed.

General Comments:

first time we have all fished france and would definitley return again. facilities as mentioned more than do the job, short drive from calais and easy to find. supermarket in Guignicourt 10-15 minute drive from pontavert with butchers and fresh fruit in store too. met sophie on arrival more than welcoming popped down few times throughout the week but mostly left to it but was only a phonecall away.

15 Carp ( 6 x 20s , 8 x 30s , 1 x 40) 2 Catfish, 1 at 43lb and 1 ( for those he hasn’t mentioned it to yet!) 112lb 3oz lake record caught by Chris. Thanks again for the beer Sophie!!

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

We used various brand boilies, bottom baits and pop ups standard rigs, all caught fish. Best tactic found to be find the fish and then small beds of boilie and pellet. We had strong winds through the week and the fish tended to be showing more on the cabin side.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, second time we’ve been here. New shower is decent, clean and plenty of room.

Were you happy with them?

Yes, we brought a bbq and used that every day. Kitchen is pretty basic but you could get by if you needed to. Large freezer for bait and 3 normal fridges are very handy. A big improvement though would be some outside seating at the cabins, sure there was a table and chairs outside last time we came?

General Comments:

A nice lake that’s an easy drive from Calais. Fish were all in good condition so soon after spawning. Lake owners are friendly and close by if you need them but happy to let you crack on otherwise. Not sure I’d choose it as a non exclusive trip as there are no swims as such, but for an exclusive social, the two spits are pretty good to all fish from. Could do with a bit of clearing in the snaggy areas as still a lot of fallen branches from the storms the previous week.

We had 11 fish between us, very hard week, bad thunderstorms mid week before that nice and hot 32, 33, 34.12, 37, 39.5, 41.8 all mirrors 25, 31, 31, 35, 39 all grass carp

Ronnie rigs worked best, 2 fish came to snowman rigs

Yes they were fine, water went off during the week so did electric owners did come down and fix. Plenty of freezer and fridge space.

The lake is too small to fit 7 anglers I think 4/5 anglers max, may need a few more fish in. And I would recommend in taking the spit out.

Facilities - The shower and toilet block were nice and clean, the kitchen was very clean as well there was plenty of fridge space and a large freezer, there was a microwave. the hotplate stove and a little grill. Was no hot water from the tap in the kitchen.

General Comments:

Fishing The fishing was extremely slow, I only landed to 2 fish the biggest being a 45lb mirror, I thought when we had the heavy rain the fishing would improve it did not, I did only fish five nights, the lake it’s difficult to describe is not a runs water, it’s not a big fish water. The Lake It was a nice lake but I would like to fish with more than four anglers as I feel it would be quite cramped with more there are two points facing each other this does cause issues one does need to be removed. I only have one complaint, it regards a lack of action from the owners\bailiffs There was a very bad storm there was a lot of damage caused several trees down some in the lake there was a lot of floating debris in the lake my only concern was the lack of it from the owners, they did not contact us to see if everybody was okay all the anglers did suffer damage due to the high winds I believe a visit from them on the night of the storm would not have been amiss, it was myself and the other anglers remove the floating debris from the lake if we had not done this the lake would not have been fishable. The surrounding area The lake is situated between Reims and Laon and only just over a couple of hours from Calais, there are plenty of places to visit if you want to go out as a lovely cathedral at Laon and one of most famous cathedrals in Reims, up the road there is a memorial to a First World War tank battle well worth the visit. *Angling Lines note* Thank you for your detailed feedback.
