How much bait will I need?
It's better to take a good amount of bait. The lake is full of natural food, so you need to make a nice spot with a good quantity of food to interest the fish. At least 20kg of boilies and 25kg of pellets per week.
What bait do you recommend?
Boilies small size 15mm to 18mm with fishmeal/squidmeal plus spice, creamy/nutty boilies are also very effective. Pellet is also something you really need to bait your spots (we feed the fish with pellets during the winter, so they know and love pellets). Particles are also very effective.
If you supply bait on site, will I be able to get more bait during my stay if I need it?
Yes we sell everything: our own high quality boilies, pellets bags, and fresh particles cooked by ourselves. Shouldn't be a problem to order more during the week.
Is my UK carp set-up suitable for use at your lake?
Yes of course, that's no problem.
What hook size do you recommend?
2 or 4 will be perfect for our lake; no small hooks, we allow sizes 2 to 6.
What breaking strain of main line do you recommend?
You could use mono, size 0.30 or 0.35mm will be perfect.
What is the surface of the swims - can I use bank sticks?
The gravelled swims are really large and comfortable and are suitable for bank sticks.
Are any special tactics required?
What works really well is a single bucket drop over the rig, with most of the bucket full of pellets and few boilies. Balanced hookbaits like wafter or half boilie/half pop-up. Small baits are better. Fish in the soft bottom, that's where the food is.
Do you recommend use of a bait boat?
Yes, it could work well after finding the good spot. We also advise the use of a rowing boat, we have some for hire at the lake if needed.
Can I drive all the way around the lake in order to unload?
Yes and you can keep your car parked next to your swim.
Is the lake secure? Can we leave our gear on the bankside if we go out?
There is a fence all around the lake, the gates are locked with a coded padlock and we have a security camera on site. So, whilst your belongings remain your responsibility, the lake is as safe as we can make it.
Can we drink the tap water?
Unfortunately no, the tap water is not drinkable. Please bring bottled water for drinking.
Do you have UK plug points?
UK adaptors are available - however we recommend bringing your own just incase.
Can I get mobile phone coverage at the lake?
Yes, usually a really good connection with 4G signal.
How far are the nearest supermarket / petrol / tabac?
The shops are in nearby Brienne le Chateau, approximately 3km from the lake.
What kind of fish could I hope to catch at Fully's Lake?
We decided when we opened in 2019, to create something special. Our objective was to give the angler the opportunity to fish a really nice lake, with lots of space (only 6 swims for 11 hectares of water) and with a unique population of fish. When you come to Fully's Lake and have a run, you can bet it is a very pretty fish (a scaley one, koi, ghost) or a big one. That's a good combination!
