About the Lake
The 4 acre tree-lined lake is relatively square in shape with a small island in the centre.
In front of the cabin accommodation is the main large double swim (approximately 9x3m) which easily accommodates two anglers. It is a gravel base and steps down towards the water's edge. Positioned at the corner of the lake, it offers excellent access to both margins as well as the central island.
As expected of a gravel pit, in the early season (usually), the lake can be much deeper due to fluctuating water levels. The main swim has been purposefully constructed as a multilevel swim to accommodate these changes.
Depths reach approximately 2 meters, however this of course can fluctuate depending on the time of year. The lake is not weedy and the bottom varies with many great features including plateaus, gravel spots and drop-offs. It isn't an overly snaggy lake, but there are snags here and there that you'll need to be aware of.
Due to the presence of mussels in certain areas on the lake bottom, a strong, abrasion-resistant snag leader is recommended.
Overall, whilst not a runs water, we would describe Ilot as a straightforward lake to fish. Rowing boats and bait boats are allowed, if you wish to bring your own.
There are no poisson chat present but as with many French lakes, crayfish are present, more so in the hotter months. It’s best to be prepared just in case, and we recommend you use tiger nuts, take shrink wrap for your hookbaits or use plastic baits - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. With these simple measures in place, they should cause you no problem.
The lake is fenced with a private gate for added peace of mind. Vehicle access is excellent, with a gravel track leading directly to the cabins and swim, allowing for convenient parking and hassle-free loading and unloading.
