SOME FRESH NEWS FROM OLD OAKS, 22nd Feb

FISH GROWTH AND RECORDS

Last autumn, the lake record has been broken 3 times! The mighty « Long Common » put some weight at 72lbs, 73lbs10oz and finally 75lbs10oz ! (congrats to Mike Winston).

Many fish reached their maximum ever weights too. A scaley mirror at 64lbs 4oz (congrats again to Mike Winston). That fish was 56lbs early in the season. The Big Scaled mirror jumped to 65lb1oz in november. The Fox Common went to 67lbs. There are now at least three 60lbs+ mirrors but this number should increase because several 58/59lbers are ready to break that barrier.

The average weight is really impressive now. We can explain that sudden growth by the constant poisson chat removal. Over the last two years, on the weekly basis, we constantly check and empty several traps. All anglers who fished the lake in 2021 were glad to notice the boilies remained intact and not touch at all. We suggest you to still bring armo mesh or bodyguard protection just in case to protect your hookbait. Even fishmeal were not touched, which is a great improvement!

STOCKPOND

Last May 2021, we finally dug a big stockpond. 3 weeks later, it was already full of crystal clear water! Last december, we stocked 40 young pure beauties : 100% zip linear and heavily scaled fish, and one 100% leather carp. Our target is to grow them for two years and then restock them in our fisheries. We consolidated the dams, and planted a dozen of oaks trees around the stockpond.

We created a new car park just in front of the picnic area so you can unload your car easily near the facilities.

WINTER WORK

We cut down a dozen of old poplars along the far bank and we enhanced the fence. We also revised the electricity in the cabin.

NEW IN THE VILLAGE OF SPAY (2mn away from Old Oaks)

You will find now a fresh pizza machine available 24h/24. That’s a handy machine when you dont want to cook ! You can still find in Spay, the butchery (new owners with a lot of choice), the bakery, the mini-market, cash machine, pharmacy, garage, etc…

NEWS FROM THE GARDEN

As you know, we love growing giant vegetables and many of you were waiting the final weights of the 2 pumpkins we grew in the patch. Last year, in 2020, we brook the French record pumpkin with a nice 1693lbs specimen. In october 2021, we beat again that record with a pumpkin weighting 1978lbs. The following week, we went to European Championship in Germany, and broke again the national record, with a whopping 2169.3lbs monster!

Our vegetables, as our boilies are 100% organic. If you need on site, fresh vegetables, do not hesitate to ask us but only from july to november. We recommend you to test our special tomato !

New lake record... again!, 6th Dec

Lake record at Old Oaks again broken this week by Mike Winston. He had already 7 big carp including a pure beauty 64lb4oz mirror (maximum ever weight) and the Legendary Long common at 75lb10oz!! That fish was 67lb in August, then 68lb, 72lb, 73lb10oz and now 75lb10oz!!

We now have about 3 new different sixties. I still dont know why fish are growing so much suddenly this autumn/winter but I'm glad!!

A New Lake Record Mirror, 24th Nov

Huge congratulations to James Litchfield for landing the big scaled mirror at 65lb 1oz. It has been so impressive to see these carp gain so much weight over this Autumn and we have seen multiple lake records fall.
