Welcome 2025, 11th Apr

Here are a few snapshots, taken just a few days ago. Everything is set and ready to welcome this year’s guests!

January 2025 Lake Update, 25th Jan

We've had a busy couple of weeks in the lake, around the lake and throughout the grounds. We've made a number of improvements to aid the general fishing of the lake or the accessibility. In the last two weeks we've...

  • Drained and netted the lake, counting and weighing the stock. We've 2 x 50lb carp, 3 x 40's and 16 x 30's with many upper 30 that will be pushing beyond 40 over the next year. There's plenty of variety with commons, mirrors, ghosts, ghost commons and grass carp. We've left one sturgeon in, a mandarin catfish and a dozen pike weighing up to almost 20lb.
  • Installed a new diffusion pump across the lake, to oxygenate the lake 365 days a year and encourage feeding and activity, especially in the warmer months. The pump uses a super silent compressor that pumps air up to the surface through diffuser membranes situated on the lake bed. This allows air to travel up to the lake surface, entraining water, breaking through the thermocline layer and reducing the risks of thermal stratification. In other words, it naturally oxygenates the lake water and increases the dissolved oxygen levels. Each diffuser circulates an approximate volume of 11,605 litres of water per minute at the depth of 2m and we've 5 diffusers across the lakebed.
  • Cutback and removed all overhanging trees and snags.
  • Raked the lakebed to remove and fallen branches and twigs.
  • Strimmed and cutback all banks around the lake to increase areas to fish from, especially if you fancy stalking.
  • The main swims, on the island, have been levelled and landscaped to increase the area to fish from and improve the area for playing and landing fish. It's comfortably easy to set a couple of bivvies along with all your tackle.
  • Built a new pathway down to the island, using railway sleepers to improve footings during wetter, winter months.

New stock, 6th Dec

New stock was added last weekend, and we will have a little more arriving soon. The largest addition was 50lb, followed by another at 35lb, with five more between 26lb and 30lb. We are also looking to manage the small carp and roach during the netting process, which we plan to complete before the new season starts.

Previous Reviews, 8th Oct

Prior to opening as a specialised carp fishing holiday venue, Lakeview was rented out as holiday accommodation successfully for a number of years. Below we've included some of the reviews of the property:

"Wonderfully located and lovely garden. The lake is amazing. A little oasis of peace and tranquility. Host was really responsive to our questions. Thank you for a lovely stay."

"There is only one thing we regret when we go to Matthew's, it is to be forced to leave! Garden, house, lake, activities... everything is conducive to relaxation. Matthew is a charming host with whom the exchanges were always very friendly. Add to that a very pretty region, and the cocktail is perfect for a truly relaxing vacation."
Alexandre M

"The property is situated in a very quiet but beautiful location, and great for a peaceful getaway. The farmhouse has everything you will need, and is very comfortable The lake is very well maintained and the fish in really good condition."
Lynn R

"Our family stayed at Lakeview for 2 weeks and had a lovely, relaxing stay. Matthew was really helpful with lots of information before we arrived and was on hand when we needed him a couple of times during our stay. The house is charming, a proper rustic French cottage, very quirky in places too!
The grounds the house sits in are what really made it for us. So much space for our dog to enjoy and explore and all so private, it was lovely to sunbathe, use the pool and relax in very pleasant surroundings. Our daughter never wanted to get out of the pool which is a great asset to have.
The nearby lakes are worth a visit, we also enjoyed local towns of Montbron, Rouchouart, and Le Rouchefauld. We also had a day in Brantome which is a lovely town about 50 mins drive away. Thank you for a lovely holiday."
Helen E

"Fantastic farmhouse and fishing lake. You wanted for nothing in the house as the host had thought about everything. The only thing Matt could not provide was a dry week, but it probably helped with the fishing to be honest, albeit a little wet on some days.
We had a fantastic week fishing with our Beagle, who also got a little fed up with the rain, but enjoyed his walks in the grounds of the house. Communications with Matt before, during and after our stay have been 1st class. Some great fish were caught in the week, the best being a 19.5kg/42lb common on 20mm boilie."
