Details of your catches:

27 carp ranging from 12lb to 35lb. Biggest being a leather, also included a stunning 20lb Koi.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Feeding mainly tiger nuts and pellets with a few boilies added. Almost all fish to double tiger nuts. Location - 5 yards off far bank at about 11:00 when looking out on main lake from house. A couple of fish down in the left channel but not as prolific as expected. Biggest fish consistently on the margin rod set up to the right just opposite swimming pool. Fishing only 3-5 yards from bank.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Facilities include everything needed for a great family holiday with excellent carp fishing. Cradles, weigh slings and tripods all provided.

Were you happy with them?

We were very happy with facilities and accommodation.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Venue was beautiful and would be great for a couple of families if using the extra rooms. Fantastic shared spaces both inside and out and a truly stunning location. Also everything you need in the local village either via convenience of the supermarket or local produce in the market or smaller shops.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes

General Comments:

Angling lines were really helpful and understanding throughout the hassles and stress of COVID-19 restrictions. Gilles and Sharon were on hand and available for anything we needed.

Details of your catches:

41 fish caught plus a small number of poisson chat. Biggest carp 41 lb. Several low thirties and most fish in the low to mid 20's range. A lot of low 20 commons. Many of the fish however were well down in weight compared to previous captures by other anglers or myself, on past visits. 1 easily recognizable mirror was at least 10 lb down in weight, and many others were 3 to 5 lb down, no doubt due to the lack of bait going in this year due to less people visiting due to covid etc. I imagine that the poisson chat are a factor too.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

I only used boilies and fished with 2 type of pop up rigs. I got through 20 kg boilies during the week. Regular baiting and casting was the way to go. If the carp were feeding the chat were less of a problem. Various spots produced, but the far margins were the most productive. The island and aerator were hit and miss and it seemed that the carp weren't around these features much of the time. The bait was 2TB from Active Bait Solutions (tutti type smell). The best pop up was sticky Krill, but you had to be careful that the chat didn't get to it 1st! I had a lot of fish on single krill baits cast to the far margins with no free offerings to attract the chat.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes. This was our 3rd visit to the venue.

Were you happy with them?

Yes. Very good standard

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Yes, if you want peace and tranquillity plus regular action on the rods. Most of the time I used 2 rods and never fished through the night.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes. We have used Angling lines several times and can definitely recommend their services

General Comments:

Mas Bas is a great venue, but a long way to go. This was our 3rd visit, but we probably won't go again, as we like to try new places. We stayed on in the region for a few extra days after the week at Mas Bas, and stayed in a gite on the river Lot, which we would recommend if you want to experience a different type of carp fishing experience.

Details of your catches:

We had about 30 fish and to be honest I fished a fraction of the time we were there and no nights either. Best of the week was a 35lb mirror hooked by a 3 yr old using a 6ft rod float fishing for poisson chat just off the metal platform!

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

I used boilies with shrink wrap and the poisson chat destroyed them. Gave up using them after a couple of hours and changed to five Tiger nuts and fished the entire week without a single poisson chat problem, you wouldn't have even known they were there! I'd tell guests to not bother with Boilies.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, everything we hoped for was available. The pool was great, being right beside the lake made it ideal for families. The platform right beside the house also makes a great spot for the kids to do some float-fishing for small fish from a safe spot.

General Comments:

Thanks for all your help sorting out our holiday. We had a great week, plenty of fish and something also for the family. We didn't fish nights or even large chunks of the days so I'd imagine for a serious carp angler fishing the whole time you'd end up with many more fish. Still from my perspective the best weeks fishing I've had in terms of size of fish and number of runs. The lake is also really nicely maintained and the hosts are really helpful. I did a second week on another venue and blanked!

General Comments:

The plus’s. The Gite, lake, pool and grounds are beautiful, set in stunning countryside. Giles and Sharon were very friendly and helpful. The negatives. The fish are in extremely poor condition, damaged mouths and most of the sizeable fish have been ‘clipped’ mutilated dorsal and take fins cut ! There is also a real problem with plagues of poisson chat !! If you don’t get a run within 5 mins of your bait entering the water, the poisson chat move in and you’ll have no bait left after 10 mins ! I tried all methods to combat this, netting and shrink wrapping my baits but to no avail.... the lake is literally teaming with Piosson chat, thousands of them ! What carp are in the lake tend to be very small for French fishing, mainly doubles with the odd 20lber. I found the fishing not to be enjoyable at all, lots of casting and reeling in with no BAIT ! The lake in my opinion has not been managed properly at all, it needs netting and the small carp removed along with ‘tones’ of poisson chat *Angling Lines note* Thank you for your feedback. It was disappointing to read this and it is in contrast to other feedback we received this year. Whilst we acknowledge there are poisson chat in the lake and they will be the most active in the hotter summer months, they have not caused a big issue for other guests. We do recommend using tiger nuts if you begin having a problem.
