General Comments:

Madam Bouchot and Alice lovely hosts, along with the rest of the family of course.Easy fishing, only fished days and had a rest of 3 hours each afternoon as I couldn't keep up with the pace. Often ended up with all rods out of the water and often had more than one fish on at a time.

Details of your catches:

79 carp in total up to 29lbs 7oz. Average size was upper doubles with around 30 twenties caught. 10 tench and a few rudd also. Only fishing days, not nights (far too tired!!!) Daily Carp Totals--> 18,6,16,9,19,11.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Boilies outfished everything. We used 10kg of essential bait's B5 boilies and could have brought more since we didn't fish boilies all the time. Method feeders came a close second with spodded pellets also quite successful. However, spodded particles did not seem to work as well as other tactics. Margins were never productive. Bring lots of boilies!!! (Crayfish and Poisson chat are not an issue here at all)

General Comments:

The fishing was extremely prolific. We fished two rods each, sometimes struggling to get all four in the water, and at one point we have 3 fish on at once which was interesting... bring at least one landing net per person! The variety of fish, from big deep commons to old scaly mirrors was wonderful, especially seeing as the next fish could be a twenty! This was our first time in France and the fishing was just incredible. Some fish even came before we could set up the bite alarms and bobbins! We fished the dam next to the lodge mostly, finding depths ranging from 7ft to 5ft about 40 yards out. Gets shallower the further down from the lodge. For example, the opposite end of the lake from the lodge is only about 1 foot deep . Also fished the tree line on the lodge bank one day, finding that you had to wade out the cast out a rig to get past the overhanging branches from the bank. Average of fish was a bit smaller there, so bigger fish tended to be on the dam end. By the 2nd day our backs where quite painful from lifting fish to weigh/picture with the most carp in a day being 19! It is worth noting that you cannot walk all the way around the lake. The far side is restricted from the top end of the dam to about 2 thirds down the far bank. Facilities were basic but ideal. The lodge was perfect, only being a few paces away from the lake itself. The trek from from Le Havre was gruelling, but totally worth it! The Bouchot family were very accommodating and the pie that was brought around was delicious! The site is particularly quiet and tranquil, which is a breath of fresh air from many UK venues. Thank you for a superb week's fishing!!!
