Overview

Fishing France at Blue Lake

With so many carp anglers searching for that perfect venue, it’s very rare that you get the opportunity to fish a lake where no one has cast a line for many years.  Blue Lake is such a place.  

Blue was originally stocked in the 1980's and then abandoned and left to its own devices until it was re-discovered by Sebastien Vasseur. Sebastien is a member of a successful fish farming family who have plenty of experience running successful carp fisheries.   

Sebastien's plan is to create a premiere carp lake so significant stockings have already taken place, details of which you'll find below.

A brand new carp lake with virgin carp almost always means fantastic catch reports in the first few seasons. Add to this the mystery of the lakes unknown original stock and everything we know tells us that Blue Lake is going to be one to watch.  The question is do you want to watch the first ever catch reports come in... or do you want to be one of those who create them?

Here’s a couple feedback quotes from 2012;

My friend and I caught 40 carp, biggest was a 39.03 common.  I had 11 x 30lb+ fish and 17x 20’s.  My friend had 3 x 30’s, the remainder being twenty pound plus fish.  Get on this venue quickly before the carp wise up because at the moment it’s a runs water for thirties!

I had an amazing weeks fishing and was well worn out come the end of the week!  Blue lake is a fantastic lake with a massive stock of fish and I would suggest it’s the ideal place for a first France trip.  Caught around 45 carp & all in all it was a trip to remember.  Many thanks to all at Angling Lines who helped to make it happen.

The Carp Lake

Blue Lake is 15 acres and roughly triangular in shape with swims cut into the tree line.  The water is crystal clear and bright blue as it reflects the clear blue skies.  Fishing France in such attractive surroundings as this is a rare opportunity.

It’s let on an individual or exclusive basis with room for up to 10 anglers (8 if booked non-exclusive). This leaves plenty of spare swims for anyone wanting to move and experience the whole of this intriguing lake. 

The lake varies from 3ft at its shallowest running to over 15ft at its South West end.  It’s a fascinating mixture of bars and areas of sand, rocks, gravel, clay and silt - a real maze of features guaranteed to keep anglers happy whilst testing their skills.  The weedy areas tend to be located at the shallow end, in the bays and along the southern bank, providing holding areas for wary carp and giving you areas to stalk them.

There are 11 newly constructed swims.  They are 10 large flat double swims and a single hidden away on the point at the end of a newly constructed road.  All are surrounded by mature trees to provide cool shady areas for you to relax in while anticipating that smoking run.

An avenue of mature trees borders the road which runs around the whole lake.  This gives easy access to the swims and there is parking adjacent to all of them.  The whole complex is fenced and gated.

The Carp

The exact number and sizes of the original stock is unknown but our early field testers landed mirrors and commons to 28lb in the limited time available to them... and bigger fish were seen. But since that time major stockings have taken place and these are detailed below. 

There are no poisson chat but as with most lakes in France there are a some crayfish.  This is one reason why we know the carp will grow on quickly, if you find crayfish then you'll almost certainly find large carp - they love 'em!  However, their numbers rarely cause nuisance and they certainly didn't cause the field testers any problems during their visit. There are also pike, perch, black bass and bream present. 

The complexity of the lake bottom and the variation in depth make it impossible to net and the nearby lakes on the same water table mean it cannot be drained. So, until they are caught we will never know what the lake holds... surely an exciting prospect for any angler!

However, what we can be sure of is the carp that have been added.  The first part of a major stocking programme took place in November '11 with the addition of 86 carp from the Vasseur family's own fish farm. 

A total weight of 2,500lb was stocked comprising;

• 33 x 30's
• 52 x 20's

with an average weight of just over 29lb.

Following on from this another 186 carp were added in December including;

• 6 x 40's
• 80 x 30's
• 100 x 20's
• plus a handful of large grass carp to mid 30's.

Adding the two stockings to test angler estimates of original stock, we estimate that Blue Lake now has between 350 and 400 carp, with a huge head of 30's and at least 6 carp in the 40's.

In Jan '12 a 49.02 mirror was stocked.

The Facilities

Blue was acquired in June 2011 and there has already been extensive work carried out to create a brand new shower and toilet block with electricity and hot water.

There is a large fridge and a 300 litre freezer on site. UK adaptors are available but the recommendation is for anglers to bring their own to be on the safe side.

You will find Blue Lake south west of Paris between Normandy and the Loire Valley in the department of Eure et Loir, just one hour from Paris by car.  There are excellent road links to the major Channel ports and Caen is just 2½ hours away and Calais only 4½ hours.  On your journey you will drive along the Route de Ble and pass the rolling expanses of wheat and the ancient windmills of Beauce, known as the bread basket of France.  

All the shops, bars and restaurants you might need are only 2km away, and if you do need a break from the action the historic cities of Chartres, Tours and Le Mans are close by. 

Carp Bait

Bait is available to purchase on-site.  To order bait please contact the owner direct. The owners Email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be made available to you in your Customer Area on our website when your holiday has been paid for in full.

Anglers can bring their own particles if it's branded prepared. Maize can be purchased at the lake, anglers just need to let Sebastien know on arrival.

Please note; Bait orders are made directly between you and the lake owner.  We (Angling Lines) cannot be held responsible for any problems that may subsequently arise.  If you order bait to be waiting for you when you arrive we strongly recommend you telephone or Email the owner a few days before your arrival to make sure it will be there for you.  In 99% of cases this will just be purely precautionary, but bait is such an important part of your holiday that it’s only sensible to take every step to avoid problems.
